i've got in no way suggested that each and all and sundry believers are ignorant. i comprehend there are probable many theists accessible that are lots greater clever than i'm. that would not propose they're top in concerns of religion. I desire to think of they have a distinctive viewpoint, and particularly easily, are purely mistaken. of path i might desire to be incorrect too. I do exactly no longer think of i'm. Edit: and easily, I have no actual subject whit Francis S. Collins. His contributions to the international of technology have been enormous. He accepts evolution and may be the 1st to provide help to comprehend that despite if there have been no fossils to earnings, each and all of the info you will be able to desire to work out that it had occurred, is via analyzing genetics. many persons are throwing a in high-quality condition using fact he's the hot head of the national Institutes of wellbeing (NIH). Many are too in contact approximately his non secular practices, thinking he might attempt to abuse his place and push a non secular schedule. i think of it particularly is dumb. He did no longer achieve this while he substitute into the top of the Human Genome project, and what maximum of and fail to correctly known that above and previous his very own ideals, as stupid as they may well be, he's a good scientist!

Yep I've heard of him and am familiar with his work. He's very good at compartmentalizing things. His reasons for believing are purely emotional and have no basis in fact just like every other Christian's. He also doesn't take the Bible seriously. That's something that you'll never find..a good scientist who thinks the Bible is correct.

Have you heard of Dan Barker? He was a preacher for 19 years and is now an atheist an co-president of the Freedom From Religion Foundation.

Yes, I'd heard of him. There are no doubt a few other scientists who have also taken a similar path. By the way, he was raised as a Christian. He claims he was an atheist for period of his youth, but I think his return to Christianity is due to being raised as one.

Note that he rejects both creationism and "Intelligent Design".

Anyway, I suspect there are many more scientists who were raised religiously who have abandoned their religious beliefs due to their work in science. Nothing can be concluded from looking at the beliefs of any one individual.

I read his book. He's an intelligent and interesting biologist.

However, I found his reasons for believing in God pretty weak. Then, his jump to Christianity was almost a joke.

He was really only an "atheist" in the sense of someone who just never thought about God.

I respect him as a biologist. But he basically spent the book looking for slight justifications on how God could exist. He did the best job I've ever herd, but it was not impressive.

At least he made a sincere attempt to teach Christians about the truth of evolution and how it is one of the strongest scientific theories we have. That to his credit.

I see you have many fair and open minded respondents.
One answerer simply quotes Francis Collins without comment and everyone gives him a thumbs down.
Fair minded, objective, reasonable people!

Never heard of him. Failure of the mind and weakness of conviction can happen to anyone. I went from being raised Mormon to Agnosticism to Atheism and back around to Christianity during one of the lower times of my life, but after certain events and time itself I have come solidly back to rest in Atheism's loving arms.

It's not a religion, it's an absence of belief. And I feel better about life knowing that I'm not fooling myself with some far-fetched fairytale. Life sucks -- embrace that truth.

Looks like he's just another wuss who's using religion to escape his fear of death. He didn't make a rational conclusion. He made an emotional thumb-sucking copout.

"However, dealing with dying patients led him to question his religious views, and he investigated various faiths. He became a believer after observing the faith of his critically ill patients and reading Mere Christianity by C. S. Lewis"

Yeah, I've heard of him. He's a classic example of compartmentalization - he's applied science, which he is very good at, to everything in his life - except for god. For some reason, he's given the idea of god a free pass, not applying the methods of science to it. Many scientists, like myself, just can't do that. It just seems hypocritical, dishonest.
