I gotta admit, SA threw me for a second. Afterall, how could someone suffering from Schizophrenia/Schizoid Process hope to deal with it by goiing through a 12step, but then it dawned on me: all mental illness should be treated both medically and emotionally. People who suffer from Schizoid conditions certainly deserve at least as much support as we have come to expect for alcoholics, heroin addicts etc.
I don't believe that anyone is talking of ignoring the pharmaceutical aspect of treatment, but certainly SA has a place in developing meaningful coping mechanisms and camaraderie.

I have not heard of Schizophrenics Anonymous but I assume it is a 12 step program that helps schizophrenics accept and work with their disease. I have heard of emotions anonymous and NAMI is big in the more metro areas.

I've never heard of such a thing. In general schizophrenics can't admit they are schizophrenic, and even if they do they tend to be emotionally flat (detached and uninvolved) and paranoid about confiding in people. Also, being around other schizophrenics can be very upsetting, as these people tend to be oblivious about their behavior. They need to be around calm, non-judmental people who know how to handle deluded thoughts and wild fears. In other words, therapists.
