It's completely up to you as a parent (if you're speaking of your own child).
I've seen kids that young riding them. Oftentimes you see video of kids who are now famous dirtbike riders riding for the first time at that age. I got a minibike when I was probably 8 or 9 and had no troubles at all handling it. But that's not 5.

If you have a motorcycle/atv dealership in the area, go have a look. They actually make small mini dirtbikes (like 50cc, 90cc) with training wheels on the. Just a metal bar attached to the frame underneathe the bike in the center that stretches out to either side with durable wheels on the ends. Would be a great way to get them started if you want to.

It is not okay for a 5 yr old to ride a mini bike...they mostly have not barely learned to ride 2 wheels yet. Besides I have seen way too many people let their kids no matter what age they are ride on mini-bikes, go-carts, etc without supervision.

Hell No! I had a motorcycle at age 14. If this minibike has a gas engine, keep the 5 yr old away. I suffered severe burns behind my knee after a motorcycle accident. Accidents with motor bikes happen in the blink of an eye and are usually serious.

Five year-olds on a mini bike? Heck, yeah. I even let younger ones ride my big bike. As long as it's stationary, 'mate. ;)

Yes, but you must watch 5 yr old's on motorized things. Tell the 5 everything you know about it and get on with him or her first. And be extra extra careful
