"Stamp out literacy" .. I almost peed myself when I read that one.

as for not everyone being 'rocket scientists' I don't expect people not to make mistakes. But the dliberate misspellings, laziness, mIxEd cApS, incomplete sentences and people's lack of attention to their own typing is astounding. We use language to be understood, correct?

When the government & the public became aware of the literacy issue, especially in schools..there was a huge effort and programs, incentives, implemented to stamp out literacy. However, there are still people who can't read, but there are a lot of government and school programs out there for the asking. I think awareness and the media helped to address this issue.

Not everyone is the same. Some people have problems with spelling, some with math and so on. I don't think someone should be made fun of because they can't spell. Everyone has weak points in learning. We can't all be rocket scientists.

Don't get me started on this one! When the state took discipline out of schools, literacy went down the hole.
