Manage his water intake, don't just give him a bunch of water and let him drink all of it. When he goes to drink water watch him, if you notice that he's drinking too much, just pick up the water bowl and place it out of his reach (remember to place it down later and watch him again, you don't want him to dehydrate).

If he stops vomiting when he drinks just a little water, then you've solved the problem and you have to keep watching that he doesn't drink too much.

If the vomiting continues even after you've limited his water or he isn't eating, take him to a vet.

Well, something is wrong but it can be a lot of things. When a dog is vomiting, the first thing you want to do is to not give it food or water for several hours so its digestive tract can rest. Then, try just a few licks of water every half hour as long as no vomiting. If no vomiting for several hours, then can give more water. Then try a few small bites of food at a time. If this isn't over by the next day, a vet visit will be needed so the dog can receive anti-vomit medications, fluids for dehydration, and so the vet can figure out what is causing the problem in the first place.

Some dogs, such as pugs in particular, often get so excited that they drink until they are full or until they empty their water bowls. These dogs often do not know when to stop drinking - they just keep going. To resolve this, you may let your dog drink a bit, then take up his water until later. Give a few times throughout the day. Usually when the dogs drink like as you described, they don't now when to stop drinking and end up vomiting a clear liquid to rid their systems of the excess water. But in your case, since your dog has been vomiting for half-a-day straight, I would, as the person above stated, take him to the vet Immeditally!! It could very well be easily prevented as described, but their could be an internal organ problem, unseen to the naked eye, or he could be trying to rid his system of something else he has eaten, such as the rug. Dogs eating parts of cloth and rocks happens very commonly! So take him to the vet and let him take a look!
Hope this helps!!

Several months back, one of my pups was behaving the same way. He vomited, drank, vomited, drank, etc.

My vet first recommended to remove the water. The water is upsetting his stomach and not helping. You do not want your dog to continue vomiting as the stomach acid can cause problems. I doubt he is eating (if he is, though, that is a good sign), but remove all water.

In my pup's case, it appeared he had a mild viral infection that quickly cured itself. In fact, by the time I brought him to the vet that afternoon, he felt better and was eating. But blood work done indicated he did have "something".

My advice is to do the same - take your dog to your vet and have blood work done. Also, ask them to perform tests (like an X-ray or equivalent to an ultrasound) to see if he has any blockage. He my have eaten something that has caused intestinal blockage, causing his ailments. You definitely want to rule this out. Blood analyses may determine other ailments or disease.

It is very possible your dog may just have acquired a viral or bacterial infection, in which case your vet may give you antibiotics (either to cure that bacterial infection or as a preventative). But definitely remove the water and take him to the vet.

Good luck!

Drinking excessively can be a sign of a thyroid problem - but you have to get that animal to a vet pronto to find out what is wrong as it sounds as if it could be serious!
Has it eaten chicken recently?!
It could be food poisoning - either way it will be getting dehydrated and may need to be put on a drip - the vet will know he/she is definitely your best bet!
If you love the animal get it there quickly!

Like Mr Robot said, the dog may have ingested something that is causing a blockage in his stomach. The vet can do a simple test to see how severe the blockage is, and then will decide on the course of treatment.

Well, I don't know if it's really hot where you live, but if it is, that could be some of the problem. Also, your dog could have Parvo or distemper, in which case, get her to the vet ASAP!
I wouldn't mess with this or try to second guess what the problem is, okay? Good luck either way.

Sounds like a blockage - get the doggy to a vet asap!

Dogs eat anything and everything.

If she cannot drink water, she will become dehydrated and it will become more serious.

Get it to the vet NOW, it could be dead by morning. There's always a chance it's nothing, but it sounds sure like it ate something it shouldn't have and is trying to get it unstuck. Get him to the vet!
