By eating of that fruit, what were they doing? The New Catholic Encyclopedia timidly suggests: “It could have been, simply, an open defiance of God, an insolent refusal to obey Him.” Is that not what Genesis clearly says? Romans 5:19 confirms the point: “By one man’s disobedience many were made sinners.” (The New Jerusalem Bible) The original sin was an act of disobedience.
While a sin of disobedience may seem simple on the surface, consider its profound implications. A footnote in The New Jerusalem Bible puts it this way: “It [the knowledge of good and bad] is the power of deciding for himself what is good and what is evil and of acting accordingly, a claim to complete moral independence . . . The first sin was an attack on God’s sovereignty.” Yes, “the tree of the knowledge of good and bad” symbolized God’s prerogative to set the standards for man as to what is approved or what is condemned. By refusing to obey God’s law, man was calling into question God’s very right to rule over him. Jehovah justly answered the challenge by allowing man to rule himself. Wouldn’t you agree that the results have been disastrous?—Deuteronomy 32:5; Ecclesiastes 8:9.
That is why the Bible’s theme, God’s Kingdom, brings so much hope. By means of that Kingdom, Jehovah promises to end oppressive man-rule soon and replace it with His rule—a government that will restore an earthly paradise—something Adam and Eve forfeited.—Psalm 37:29; Daniel 2:44.

Most Christians who talk about Original Sin are referring to Adam and Eve disobeying God by eating friut from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, condemning the entire human race, and putting all of humanity in need of redemption. Not all Christians ascribe to this theory.

The "original" sin, according to Judeo-Christian theology, was humanity's eating of the fruit of the tree of "knowledge of good and evil", in defiace of God's prohibition. On the most basic level, they disobeyed God's only rule. On a deeper level, the sin was about attempting to learn the ability to judge good and evil without God's help. The sin was a sin of distrust and self-sufficiency, saying "We don't need God."

Adam and Eve disobeyed a direct commandment of God. He told them "Do not eat off the tree of knowledge, or you will surely die." Despite this warning, Eve ate from the tree and then Adam also ate from the tree.
Obviously, eating fruit from a tree is not considered an act of evil. So, how was that this was so bad?
Firstly, they disobeyed God. Surely, God who knows all things warned them in love. God knew the consequences of the actions would lead to great suffering and death.
Secondly, they did not love God or trust Him. When we love someone, we believe in them. We trust what they say and give them our faith. If they had loved God, they would have believed Him when He said, "You will surely die."
Thirdly, Satan tempted Eve by saying, "You will be like God." This allured Eve. What this basically meant was this: "You won't have to obey God anymore. You can be free to do your own thing and do what you want. You can be like God who doesn't have to answer to anyone." This is much like a teenager who so desires to leave their parents house because they hate having to follow the rules.
Truly, the "original sin" was a lack of reverence for God. They did not put God first in their life. They did not love God with all their heart, mind, body and soul. (Which is what all the commandments are based upon - Mark 12:30). If they had, they would have listened to God's warning.
Now, an even more important question arises in this. What was the result of this? Sin separated Adam and Eve from God. Before, He was their loving father and caregiver. But, by denying God reverence, they were kicked out of the garden. Without God they would die for God gives life. Without God they would have to work hard for food as God wasn't there to help them. Without God, the earth became corrupted and plagued with evil.
The "original sin" was like a disease. It infected Adam and Eve causing them to become sinful. Every person born from them would also inherit this disease. It plagues all of humanity. Our hearts do not desire God or seek to love Him; instead, we are self-seeking and rebellious. We are cursed with sin and desperately need a cure.

Man disobeying God, and gaining the power to decide things for himself. With the knowledge of the difference between Good and Evil, man gains the ability to make decisions for himself, deciding which is the best course of action for himself. Instead of being an automaton, only able to perform actions decided by God, man now can rule himself, decide for himself, and be free.
That is the true state of the Garden, a prison designed to keep mankind in bondage, with the serpent being the only one who was able to free us from that bondage.
Ponder this, why does Good want good little obedient slaves, and Evil is there to free us from our chains.
Hail Eris! All Hail Discordia!

As perfect humans Adam and Eve made a deliberate choice to reject Jehovah's sovreighnty and to accept the guidance of Satan instead. There was no sign of repentance on the part of the rebels. therefore there was no option for forgiveness for them, and as a result of not having any children before they sinned and became imperfect, they have passed on sin imperfection death and sickness on to everyone living right down to us today.

from the literal biblical perspective, it is the fall of Adam and Eve, having disobeyed God in the Garden and Eden. their "fallen" nature was inevitably passed on from generation to generation. in the more figurative perspective, original sin represents, in general, the idea that man was originally made to be in harmony and unity with God, but this harmony was broken. the breaking of this original harmony between man and God is original sin.

the original sin was when Adam ate from the tree of Good and Evil. There was one tree in all of the Garden of Eden that God told Adam not to touch. The devil lied to Eve and got her to eat it. She, of course, could not bear this alone, so she took it to her husband and convimced hm to eat it also. Man then new the difference btw good and Evil and disobeyed God.

this is now the christian belief that an individual needs to be baptised to wash it.
so to make it short, it is called the "original sin"
