Guess I'm the odd man out, as I don't see any problem with it at all. I will also fess up that I frequently use that technique. People I've excluded are certainly free to respond, but some questions I'd prefer a theist perspective and others a non-theist. Doesn't it make sense to target your audience rather than doing a shotgun approach? e.g. why would I want to know atheists' view of heaven and then have to weed through 10 responses telling me they're worm food before I get to a Christian whose opinion I was interested in?
Now if you're referring to someone asking a generic question then yeah it should be open to everyone.

There is not a more specialised forum here for that.
I think for those who are seriously asking a question and honestly wanting information, it's okay to ask for specific types of people to respond. Sometimes you really just want to know the Jewish or Muslim or Christian view because you already know the viewpoints of the others.

Well, maybe, if some one is looking for a really specific answer. I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses, Ha! no one looks for my answers right or wrong, so I think I know your sentiment, but...STILL if some one is looking for a specific question answered, how could a Christian know the deep beliefs of a Muslim and how could a Muslim know the deep beliefs of a Christian! So it does have to be specific sometimes!

I think I am fairly well known for my "Christians: ..." questions.
I use it as a way of attracting their attention. It also helps to identify the question as one about Christianity, rather than say Buddhism, Islam, or Judaism.
I receive answers from all sorts of people outside the Christian community, and they are welcome. There are times when I award best answers for such question to non-christians.
And I never feel excluded from questions like that either. As you say, this is a public board.

I would hope that people ask for certain groups to respond, because they are interested in knowing what others thoughts are... Not that they are trying to restrict other people from voicing an opinion.

perhaps ... BUT given this is a pretty wide reaching forum ...
I don't think it's that muck of a crime .. so long as they don't carry on ridculously when somebody NOT of their category answers...
perhaps it's all in their wording ... eg>:
" i am interested in learning more about how martians tie their shoe laces, can anybody enlighten me re this, Martian Input would be greatly appreciated "

Well, they can request that but, it doesn't really mean anything. I think it is worse when they block people from answering because they can block a whole religion from answering one of their question if they know who is who.

I think that they just don't want smarta** answers from other people. Maybe they are genuinely trying to get an answer.
