I am just trying to figure out what I am going to do with my gown after the wedding. I am typically a sentimental person, so I am leaning toward saving it. But I know it will never get worn again, even if I have a daughter. I am sure she would want to choose her own.
What did you do with yours? Did you ever regret your decision?

Just the opposite. I wish I would have sold it or given it away not long after the wedding while it was pretty much still in style, though it's a real traditional type gown. It's just been there.... hanging in a closet.... just a waste. I'm just in the process of researching if there is anything all I can make out of it - read about the idea of making the christening gown out of it a little too late!
And the idea of having it encapsulated by the drycleaners in the airtight box is dumb, I think, because you can't open it. If you are going to have it, you are going to want to look at it, and touch it at least once in a while...
I'm TOTALLY sentimental, but there is just no reason to save it -- just remember you will always have the pics of how beautiful you looked in it!

well, I rented my wedding dress (couldn't afford to buy one)... I assumed the pictures would do- to remember that gown... then we split up about 3 or 4 months after our wedding... he got almost everything (break up wasn't expected)... including the wedding album. I had never felt pretty before that day, and I have never felt as pretty since - b/c of the gown. I have stood in front of my closet many a days, and wished I had that dress to look at... sounds stupid I know, but I've forgotten what that dress looked like. So now whenever I think about evening gowns and what not, I try to remember that dress, and I just can't remember the little specifics............. hope this helps.
so I guess a relic of a gown to keep around is good not just for rhyming. lol

I'm looking at donation my gown after my 10/06/07 wedding to the Brides Against Breast Cancer organization (www.makingmemories.com). My mom is kinda pissed, but seriously, I'm not planning on using it again or having kids, so why not let someone else have a beautiful day using it?

I have known more brides who have regretted saving it than ones who regret giving it away. It costs so much to preserve them and I know it's "for your daughter" but how many brides do you really know that wore their mother's dress? Fashion changes and I know tons of brides who let the dress sit in the closet for a few years, realize how much room it take up, and end up chucking it.
With my dress I am taking a page from other brides mistakes. After the day of the wedding I am going to donate the actual dress to charity and use the tax write-off for a nice refund at the end of the year. My memento is that I will save my veil and the sash. I am going to use the material with I frame our wedding photo instead of regular mat board. It will cost way less and I can look at it any time instead of having to dig a giant box from the attic.

I'll tell you what I did with mine.
I died it BLACK, along with the Hat and used it for a Halloween Costume! and I won $50.00 for best costume!
I felt the same way about my gown, even tho I loved it, I also knew that if I had a daughter she'd want her own gown.
You could sell it on Ebay, in the News Paper, or you could give it away, 2 sites you can list it for free is.
www.freecycle.com (look for your State and city) or you can list it on www.craigslist.com.....(your state and city).

You can have it preserved and if you take the notion to renew you vows at some point in time you could re-wear it. If you have a couple of daughters you can have it cut into handkerchiefs for them to carry with their bouquets.

I am keeping my dress...at one point I considered vacuuming the house in it simply so i could wear it again! lol Actually, its a tradition in our family to cut a piece of your mother's gown and have it sewn into the bodice of your gown...so I of course am keeping mine so my daughter can pick the piece she wants and have it for her big day.
