Has your vet actually seen the dog? Possibilities include allergies, mites, ringworm. Has he skin scraped her? Is she itchy all over or just her lips and chin? Is she losing hair or has red skin? If only lips and chin, some dogs are allergice to the plastic bowls they eat out of--try switching to stainless steel or ceramic. If your vet hasn't helped her, get a 2nd opinion or seek a vet dermatologist.

My pointer mix has the same problem. She itches all the time, to the point where she itches herself raw. She does not have any kind of infection, flees, worms, or such like that. We have also seen the vet numberous times and all they can do is try to diagnose the problem. They might often be able to take some blood work and samples to send to the lab. Your dog may be allergic to something that she is eating or that is within your house. In my case, my pointer is allergic to the standard allergins in household carpet. Your vet can also perscribe shots to give to your boxer as well. These shots are usually given in small amounts and are easily injected right between her shoulder blades. Even if you are fearful of needles, you can be assured that these small shots, given every 11 days or so, are not harmful to the dog. In your case, since you point out the itching around the facial and mouth area, I would believe that your dog might be allergic to something that she might be eating. This could be the food you give her daily - a certian ingredient in her dry kibble might be causing an allergic reaction - or something that she ate while she was outside to potty that you may have not even realized. Have you brushed your dog's teeth lately with any kind of substance that she could have been allergic too? This happened one time to my dog where I had brushed her teeth with a standard "doggy toothpaste" and a few hours later had giver her the allergy shot, something between the two caused her to itch even more than normal and her face swelled up like a balloon! For now, you can give your dog one benadryl daily. Many vets will tell you to do this on a daily basis because it is mild enough to be given daily. The pill might make her sleepy, but it will defientally help calm down the itching. Suggest some of the things metioned to your vet the next time you visit him or her and ask your vet as well about a canine dermatoligist. The dermatoligist can tell you exactally what is irrating to her skin, but beware of the steep price you will pay for a visit!
Hope this helps!!
