Buddhism is named after the name of its propogator Buddha which means one who has all knowledge. Buddha did penance on his own and after attaining enlightenment he taught the world that the source of all sorrow in this world is desire. One should strive to root out desire. One should follow the middle path. Neither eat too much nor starve. Neither earn too much nor become a beggar. He never uttered the word God. He neither accepted Gods existence nor denied it.

Very informative

Buddhism is a dharmic religion and a philosophy.[1] Buddhism is also known as Buddha Dharma or Dhamma, which means roughly the "teachings of the Awakened One" in Sanskrit and Pali, languages of ancient Buddhist texts. Buddhism was founded around the fifth century BCE by Siddhartha Gautama, hereafter referred to as "the Buddha".

Yahoo.com has a lot of Buddhist links in their Religions & Beliefs section.

Basically, Buddhism is an offshoot of Hinduism. Although they do not believe a Creator God, they do, however, believe in numerous non-creator gods & goddesses.

They believe that becoming a Buddha is higher than a god, because to become Buddha means to be enlightened.

No self, no problem.

Just don't identify with what you think of yourself: your mind, your body, your emotions, etc.

Be the witnessing presence.

It's kind of like Spiritual Satanism (www.joyofsatan.com) except instead of believing in Satan they believe in God, and instead of Hell as paradise, they just call it paradise. But they do empower themselves with meditations, and they practice manipulating nature (pyrokinesis, hydrokinesis, aerokinesis, geokinesis).
