For example today's Czech Republic - Argentina game. No goals but it was interesting at least for me.

Actually the reason I asked this question was that I have heard that a big reason why football (soccer) is not that popular in the USA is that its too low scoring.

So I was trying to compare responses from Americans to other nationalities who know and like football (soccer) more.

Yes, it can be interesting to see how two very defensive teams could outplay each other, mostly in an international tournament.

I am Mexican-American and have watched too many games in the Mexican soccer league. Only on very few circumstances I have not enjoyed a 0-0 game but mostly when I do not really know the teams playing. Normally, when I watch a game it is because I am really interested in at least one of the teams.

It depends; goals aren't everything. If it's 0-0 because both teams suck really bad, then no. If it's 0-0 because, as many people said, one team has figured out a way to block the other's every attack, then it becomes a real contest of skills. Can Argentina get around the solid Czech defense? Can the Czechs hold back another Argentine attack? Whoa, nice footwork! That's what keeps me watching.

Edit: I'm from Argentina, so there are few things I love to watch more than the Argie midfielders at work. =)

The scoring can be slow, yes. The game itself is typically very fast paced and has no breaks in it except for half time which is only 15 minutes. You get to watch an entire 90 minutes of constant play, plus NO COMMERCIALS! How is penalty shoot outs a joke? It test how good the Keeper is and also how well the players can place a shot. It doesn't just go straight to penalty shots though, they get 30 minutes of extra time before it goes to penalty shots. That way games won't last hours on end. Sure there is a lot of flopping, but watch a game and you'll see that a lot of the stuff they "flop" for is pretty aggressive. Also there are a lot of actual injuries. Really, racism... There are fines for it. Hate to burst your bubble but soccer isn't alone with some of its "racism" Like SoccerRef said, Soccer is on the incline in the US. The younger generation is growing up with it and the negativity that has shrouded it here is going away.

The game was 0 - 0 because Czech Rep was in a very defensive position.. like the USA the other night... so this argentinian players couldn't penetrate their base and score a goal... It seems Czech Rep was happy for the results.. they expected that a rival like Argentina won them... anyway, they did pretty good..

It depends on why it is a zero-zero game.

If both teams have good chances and it takes some great goal tending to keep the shutout, then it is an exciting edge of seat game.

If the reason is that both teams are using fouls to shut down the game in the midfield, then the game is boring and needs the refs to use the cards as they were meant to be used to keep the players honest.

yes of course. there are instances that football games were enjoyable despite 0-0 scorelines.

i've seen competing teams go all out against each others hitting the crosses and driving shots after shots. and the defense also throws everything just to prevent the ball from crossing the goal line.

Well, the most important thing is there should be drama, controversies and action packed. Thats make soccer more interesting than any other sports which uses artificial intelligence instead of the referee controlling the game.

yeah some of those games can be interesting. some have some very close calls and thats usually when a goalkeeper can showcase his skills or team can show how great there defense is. i would much rather watch that than a blowout game because of the intensity and the effort by both teams

A 0-0 match may result boring as seeing only the result but if you see the match it could be that the match would be interesting and full of actions....

yep, i fully enjoyed that game. it was entertaining, and i really liked seeing Argentina's fancy footwork/style of play. also, it surprised me how Czech could manage to tie with Argentina, who had 20-something shots at the goal.
