Sometimes watching a certain fantasy show, movie, or reading a book like that may put weird thoughts in your mind, but, like you said, it is pure fiction, at the end of the day, its just something someone with a big imagination came up with. My older sister is a good christian woman but she loves Harry Potter. Don't let it bother you, just watch it and enjoy it and remember, it is pure fantasy.

Well it depends on what the things are and whether they may lead you to temptation.
For example, Christians should avoid all types of erotic or pornographic materials, so that they are not lead into sinful thoughts.
The same applies to viewing violent movies or movies about occult practices. It depends whether you are mature enough to discern the ungodly things from the Godly things.
This is why it is definately not good for young impressionable kids to watch movies like Harry Potter, because they will be much more impressed by it than the adults.

Yes, I'm a Bible believing Christian.
If it messes up your relationship with the Lord, if it confuses you or you feel guilty, then don't read it, don't see the movie.
I just went to see the new Pirates of the Carribean movie today and that had more occult stuff in it than Harry Potter.
But I know its all just some silly fantasy.
If it bothers you then don't watch it.
I know people who took their kids and the neighbor kids to see the Harry Potter movies, then afterwards went out to get some pizza and then talked about what was right with the movie and what was wrong with it.
As the result, lots of kids became Christians.

Reading Harry Potter books is harmless fun.
But: Movies that feature spirits, ghosts, and magic and rituals may hurt your relationship with God if they are satanic, or go against what the Bible says about magic, talking to spirits, and witchcraft. (Look up in a Bible concordance these words: mediums, witchcraft, witch of Endor, pagan, adultery...to find out what God says about them in the Bible)
I personally avoid Anne Rice books because she twists scripture to lie about God.

We live in this world, but we are not of the world. I heard from many faithful, and sincere Christians that Harry Potter was bad. I watched my first Harry Potter movie about a week ago. I really enjoyed it and would like to see more of them. Would I want my grandchildren to watch it? No I would not. Those who are young and curious can become so caught up in this sort of stuff that they can easily lose tract of their Spiritual Reality.

Think for yourself. Does reading those things make you believe in God any less? If it does, don't read them. If it doesn't, read them.
If they make you question things in the christian religion, good. Demand answers from ministers, preachers, etc. and then ask questions about those answers.
You must be your own knowledge-seeker, and only you know when something is leading you closer or farther away. Nobody else knows that, so don't look at other people like they hold the one and only truth, because all anyone is doing is relying on their own opinions about what they read and hear, nobody holds the absolute truth.

How is it wrong? Those movies and books never say anything about the magic being used from any negative spiritual realm. And, dont we have sci-fi movies with wierd monsters or futuristic weapons? This magic should be viewed like that i think. But if you know it is wrong for you then it would be bad I guess, although I see no problem with those stories.

The key is to understand what is real and what is fiction. Some people do not know where to draw the line.
Some people claim to think that if you read fiction, the fiction will become real to you.
This is true for weak-minded people who cannot distinguish between what is real and what is not. When you read Harry Potter, you know it is fiction. When you read the bible, do you also know this is fiction?
Do you know what is real and what isn't?

Dearest Asker,
I personally see nothing wrong with reading fiction as long as it does not interfere with your religious studies. Be certain that you spend some time each day reading, studying, and obeying the Bible so that you are on course for Heaven when that time comes. One never knows when he/she has ended his/her short existence on this earth. We are told that our life is a vapor that appears for a short time... Have a wonderful evening.
Thanks,

If you understand the difference between fiction and non-fiction. You just need to ask yourself:
Will reading this bring me closer to God or farther away?
If you can say that it brings you closer...go for it...if not...you may want to rethink reading it. God gave you free agency, and a brain to work with...use them.
