Changing tires is relatively easy. Go ahead and buy your slick tires. Deflate the mounted tubes all the way and push the old tire off the rim. Start opposite the valve stem and just work your way around the rim. Installation is almost the reverse of removal.

When you install a new tire, take the rim and slip one of the tire beads into the center of thr rim. Now install the tube, starting at the vavle, tucking it into the tire all the way around. Now begin seating the other bead of the tire from the valve area first and work your way around.

Some tires require some hand strenght. some go easy. The bike shop sells plastic levers that can aid in slipping the new tire into place.

When you inflate the new tire, inflate it once, then deflate it. Then inflate it all the way. This process will ensure that if you pinched the tube anywhere, it will right itself during the inflate/deflate/inflate. It also helps to seat the tire beads evenly.

Good luck

You may also need to get narrower tubes as the knobbies tend to be wide, and the slicks will be a little narrower. Other than that, as mentioned above, it's very easy. Good luck.
