I'm with the practical folks... cabinets up high are horrible for bumping your head, the ones down near the bottom the cats will crawl in, and keeping them closed helps keep the dust down so they don't have to be cleaned as often (compare an open shelf like a bookshelf & an always closed cabinet).

Well keeping a cabinet door open is just something you don't do, it looks weird and if you keep it open for long periods of time and smells that might be around like say cooked food or whatever will go onto the stored clothes. Then you have the possibility of fly's,spiders and bee's flying into the cabinet, then someone closes it and they end up dead which is not a nice sight when you want to change clothes. If it's not clothes that's in there it just looks plain bad, just keep them shut.

Cabinet doors need to be kept closed so cooking grease and dust doesn't get in. It's also a matter of safety. My mother was one that would leave doors open then bend over to get something out of a base cabinet, stand up ad crack her head on a door she'd left open. It drew blood several times.

I keep the upper cabinet doors closed because I have been bonked in the head more than once by an open cabinet door. Hurts when you get hit by the corner of that door.
Not to mention that it looks neater to see the door, instead of everything that is inside the cabinet. Keeps the inside of the cabinet freer of dust, too.

It's odd to leave the cabinet doors open, and they would usually get in the way of your head or something else. But to close them for the reasons you give...suggests obsessive compulsive behavior (OCD). It's not terribly serious if you don't do other things obsessively - like wash your hands till they bleed, or constantly return home to be sure the doors are locked, etc. We all have some obsessive behaviors.

Why have doors on the cabinets if they are not going to be kept closed. Otherwise they would be display cabinets and everything would have to be all neat and matching in there. I shut them if i am done getting in and out of them otherwise someone might hit their head. But if you are in the process of cooking or putting away the dishes then you may find afew open. But i don't usually fear anything coming out to get me.

well it always a good idea to leave the cabinets closed so ppl don't bump into them all the time if they are walking by. also it makes the kitchen look like a dump with cabinets opened. it more neat looking when they are closed.

I cannot stand to walk into a room with cabinet doors, drawers, dresser drawers, or closet doors open. You can have the cleanest house on the block and the only thing I notice is the open doors or drawers and I think you're a slob........So, yes, it bothers me......a lot.

It bothers me becuase my younger brothers used to leave the cabinet doors open all the time, and i'd be closing them after them. Just looks messy.

Oddly enough I just answered another question and mentioned that this is one of my pet peeves. I think it's b/c when I lived at home my brother's left them open all the time and I can't count how many times I hit my head on them. Grrrripes my butt. And really......how hard is it to close a cabinet?????
