Bands on legs aren't recomended unless being used for breeding purposes. They can cause some damage if the incorrect bands are fitted. Most people who buy parrots for pets have the band removed by an avian vet as it is not necessary & will prevent any misshaps the band may cause.
I'd also like to mention my ekkie came from a reputable breeder & without a band. A band is a breeders choice, nothing to do with whether the breeder is good or knows what they're doing. I know my breeder knows what he's doing. I don't know many breeders here that do use bands so it is also to do with your locality & what you believe to be right.

All good breeders put a band on the bird's leg ten days after it's born. If your bird doesn't have one chances are the breeder didn't know what they were doing, was cutting corners with not wanting to spend the extra few dollars, or the bird was caught in the wild and people shouldn't buy ones like that anyway.
Mostly if a bird at a pet store doesn't have a band you don't buy it, if it's from a shelter then clearly it was abused anyway and a band doesn't matter.

3 of my 4 birds have one, but I wish they didn't.My cockatiel picks at his constantly and the only way to have it removed is under anesthesia which is very dangerous to birds. I know of too many birds that died under anesthesia, so I will not put mine under unless its a matter of life and death. As the other answerer said it is a matter of choice on the breeders part to band or not.

i'm not completely confident appropriate to something of it, yet i understand the ''01'' ability 2001. Wherabouts do you reside? AAC would imply American something or different, fifty six, I think of, may well be the form of Greys the breeder had bred. This guy became fifty six.
