I am Christian but I don't think that would have anything to do with it. I won't speak for everyone but the majority of Christians use the dictionary definition, which is:
voluntary sexual intercourse between a married man and someone other than his wife or between a married woman and someone other than her husband;
I think the only difference with Christians is that we believe it to be wrong and a sin, whereas some others do not.
Personally, I guess my ex-husband (who would have said he was a Christian) didn't think adultery was wrong or didn't care. Many Christians do not believe in divorce either but I did what I had to.

Against,
According to Rod (above) "Adultery is "sex between between people married to others. One of them has to be married to someone else." I agree with this except... according to Christ, if we look upon another with lust then we have already committed the act. The actual act is not required. I have been faithful to my beautiful wife for over 32 years and I will do so until death do us part because I am a true Christian who believes GOD wants us to read, study, and obey HIS HOLY WORD! Have a wonderful evening.
Thank you,
Eds
.
EDIT:
Kevin,
Please take some time and read Matthew closely.
Thanx,
Eds

Jesus said...
"I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart."
(Matthew 5:28)
That's probably an adultery label at an earlier point than what most think!

Adultery is when one has sex and one or both partners are married to a different person.
the answer to this and to any sin is salvation=this is how I as a Jew came to know Jesus personally
"Unto us a child is born, a son is given, and he will be the mighty God, and the prince of peace." Isaiah 9:6
the answer is still in the salvation of the soul-till then we are on the outside looking in. Revelation 22 "Do not add to my word or take from it or you will receieve plagues, and never find salvation.
this is how I got salvation-believing the Word of God="I love you, and ask you to repent of your sins (even one lie) quickly. Behold I stand at your heart door and knock if you hear my words and ask me in, I will come in and be your friend." Revelation 1:1=Jesus words spoken from heaven & 3:19&20
so i prayed "Jesus I am sorry for my sins, come into my heart and help me, be my friend, amen."
Now Jesus is my Messiah, Bright and morning star, best friend, and savior, he comforts and keeps me, and His word has become the love letter of my life in Spirit and in truth.
Praying the best for you too, David

Adultery is a married man or a married woman having sexual intimacy or sexual intercourse with someone other than their spouse.
In God's eyes, legally separated and/or divorcing married couples, will be guilty of adultery if they have sexual intimacy or sexual intercourse with anyone other than their spouse before their Biblically sanctioned divorce is granted.
Fornication is having sex before you are married, or after you are divorced, or if you are a widow(er) who is still single and not remarried.

These supposed to be "deadly "sins.
In Christianity you go to confession and say your 100 Pater Nosters and yuor sins are forgiven - you can start all over again.......
In Islam the woman is stoned to death - the man gets 70 lashes with the whip in public.

Voluntary sexual intercourse between a married person and a person who is not his/her spouse.
I also think there is such a thing as "emotional" adultery. That would be when someone forms a loving, emotional connection for someone who is not his/her spouse.
