Yeah, I never understood how these commandments could be considered universally applicable. I mean, the parents could be asking their children to engage in illegal activities. The parents may be asking their children to perform sexual favors on them. The parents may their children to hold still while they get beaten. Children need to know that sometimes what their parents do ISN'T ok.

It's God's rule, it's for man to follow.
Children should always honor their parents even if the parents don't honor their child. I guess the only good thing to say is that the child was honorable.
The sad part of life is when people become so jaded that they can't or won't believe what their eyes see.
Where is the honor in those who refuse to help?
I hope you always help.

Jesus is father to the fatherless. Many children walk thru life on that terrible path.
To honor a bad parent would be insulting to God , who is love.
Be an angel in prayer and help if you are able.
The torment and pain of of the innocent is a joy to Satan's heart as it causes great pain to God's heart.

You can honor your parents by living your life well. Honoring your parents does not mean accepting abuse. I can't stand it when people twist God's Word to make an absurd point.
Child abuse is a serious matter, and I am certain God condemns it.

unfortunately, a lot of parents follow the bad and the urging of the devil. I think God wants us to Honor our Father and Mother, as they treat us like their children. The same way God treats His children, the saved. So, I believe that when a parent acts like you are describing, they forfeit their "parenthood" and just become "guardians". Thanks for the question, hope I helped, and have a wonderful day!!

Actually, sometimes the best way to "honor thy father and mother" is to call the law on their sorry @$$es. Respecting your elders does not mean "condoning their criminal behaviour".
Those who keep silent about known abuse, condone the abuse.
The technical term for this is "tough love". If the parent's don't like you loving "their" child in this manner, tough!

Honor, and self defense, are two different things. Honoring your mother and father means not bringing shame on the family. Parents who abuse and molest their children, or engage in any unlawful activities, have brought shame on their family themselves.

To Honor does not mean hide the truth, just the opposite.
That commandment means to live your life so it will do honor to your parents, even if they don't deserve it.
It is how you are to live your life, so you are the better for it.

That is so sad & it happens.
When we know a child is being abused, we need to seek God in how to help.
And start out by praying for these Children...
