being a Christian, I'm gonna try to answer this as easy as possible...

But idolatry can be kind of tricky... Most people certainly don't worship any of the singers/judges, etc.

However, many times, I've caught myself, and questioned whether by the fact that I'm sitting here, being lazy, watching a television show about rude, harsh, brutal judges bruising, harming and hurting people's feelings, and me laughing and being "entertained" is in any way sinful... and I think it is...

I could spend my time reading the Word, praying, helping others, walking my dog, spending time with family, etc.... so yeah, i think if you make it a point to avoid the Lord during that hour to watch the show, you're placing American Idol above God...

Remember, Jesus said: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."(matt. 22:36-38)

So the way I figure it, if it doesn't honor those two commandments, it's definitely only you pleasing yourself...

But dang, American Idol IS FUN to watch... I have been watching since season 1... but, i dunno, pray about it...

The question shouldn't be only to Christians, Jews don't allow idolatry either, but whatever.

But to the question; if you worship the people that sing sure, although no one really does that, so just watching is not idolatry.

I suppose it could be if you turn the show or any of the people on it into an idol & place them above God &/or worship them, but that could be of any show on TV. It could be said of thing that you put above God, including TV, music, family, sports, ANYTHING!

Sure it's a sin. Anyone who watches American Idol goes straight to hell when they die.

Not unless you idol and worship the singers as your God.
