Usually just unsrcews, But if you see a long metal tab going around the cable , just pust it towards the speedo and pull the cable at the same time. Might be a little tight from being on there 30 yrs

Talon, is right, u push the tab, don't pull the tab.
the way it works is when u install a new or used cable u just line it up and push it in and it locks in place on its own.
when removing it u will need to push the tab towered the speedo to release it, pulling the cable at the same time.

There is a u type clip on the back of the speedo head.Lift up on the clip and that will release the cable.

it un screws off the back of the speedometer.
