When I watch TV after a bomb scare or act of terrorism/hostage taking, why does no representative of the muslim faith not IMMEDIATELY condem the actions. You never see an imam on the tv criticising it, but when you criticise islam, they say 'this is against the teachings of Islam'. So why dont they criticise, are their arms being twisted.

Ps. does Islam have a heirachal structure to their religion e.g. pope, can anyone be a imam.

pps forgiveness for any spelling mistakes.

Because maybe we've been correct all along. We thought that Islam was a religion of peace. True. Peace by the sword. Jesus spoke of peace and love. Christians are to follow this example. If we do not; we are not Christians. Muhammad was a man of the sword. So too could you not think the same of many Muslims.

Therefore terrorists aren't extremists. They are "devout" muslims. They are true Muslims who take their religion seriously. This is why regardless of what political strides we make in the Middle East, Bin Laden said Al Qaeda would continue to attack us until we are completely annihilated or converted. Here's a true and devout Muslim.

Be not deceived my friend. At least 25% of those polled lauded suicide bombings in a recent survey in the US. A noted Palestinian Muslim turned Christian put it more to be around 75%. Would you want to be the minority in this group? Imagine the similarity if you were a German in WW2.

We are in a war for our very existence as "free" people. But just because some of us don't take our faiths seriously we tend to think the same of others. How untrue.

This is why moderates don't come out in mass protest. Blacks protested for civil rights in the 60s facing death and brutality. Why aren't they protesting an attack on their religion and the country they claim to love? Because bin Laden shares almost the same popularity as Salahuddin. An Islamic hero.

God bless

Look, If Muslims sucssed in spreading terror they will scream verses from Quran justifing their actions. As soon as they are on the receiving end ,all the peace makers(who are silent till then) will come out of the wood works caliming how Islam has been misunderstood by the propegenda of Non Mulims!
They have played this game through out history and will continue to do so.

No, there is no hierarchy in Islam like there is in Christianity. That is part of why it does not appear that Muslims are doing anything. Many do protest what is happening, but they are not being heard because are not being represented by a large fugurehead like the Pope. FYI I always condemn terrorism.

I too wonder where the 'silent majority' of muslims are also. It is interesting to me though that so many are able to have large protest rallies whenever mohammed is insulted but I've never seen those same people (en masse) condemning the actions either.

It would be refreshing to see an imam come on CNN (or similar channel) right after a bombing committed by a radical muslim and offer his prayers for the victims regardless of faith and condemn the actions of the perpetrator(s).

To paraphrase our savior: "You will know a tree by the fruit it bears."

(sigh)there are many muslims, including imams, out there who do condemn terrorism..and about the media not reporting these, maybe its just where you live, because, i often read in the news about certain important muslim figures condemning theses terrorist acts and urging us muslims to unite and fight against terrorism..i myself have my own method of opposing terrorism, and just because not everyone out there are not aware of it, doesn't mean that i don't oppose it.
And yeah, any person with adequate knowledge about the Qur'an, Shari'a etc. can be considered an Imam, and there is no Pope-like authority in islam..

That is the question that appears practically everyday here. Some people answer that they do condemn them, but I have never seen them.
I really don't know where do they do the criticizing . Must be in some very hidden place.
If any day I heard that the representatives, imams, etc, would make the criticizing, I most certainly would record it for posterity

Some are, but have not received a lot of publicity. Part of this arises from the rather loose structure of Islam; one mostly has to be an ayatollah to get much attention, and the ayatollahs are spending their time threatening Israel.

There is no muslim pope, or equivalent.

Also, most muslims in the UK involved in terrorism are not even connected to Iraq in any way. I m iraqi, and im sick and tired of these pakistanis, Bangladeshis etc hijacking iraq to peddle their own bigotry and hatred. They are not connected to Iraqis, culturally, Ethnically, Linguistically or historically, know and care nothing about iraq and are just sons of dogs using it as an excuse to vent their frustrations at being part of a failing community in the UK, and part of an intollerant, weak and aggressive culture. And they are utterly hypocritical! HOW MANY WESTERN MUSLIMS EVER MENTION THE MASS SLAUGHTER OF BLACK MUSLIMS BY ARAB MUSLIMS I DARFUR? Errrm NONE!

this ridiculous question keeps getting asked and the same answer applies...imams the world over have been denouncing terrorism where it matters most-in their individual mosques...not everyone goes racing for a tv camera at the drop of a hat,,,and, BTW, i have seen muslim leaders denouncing terrorism long before 9/11...but you'd have to watch something other than fox to see it...as for them saying 'this is against the teachings of islam' whenever islam gets criticized, maybe it's in response to morons blaming a religious faith for what twisted individuals do-why are islamic leaders held to a higher standard than Christian leaders?...after all, i don't recall billy graham, jerry falwell, or any other representative of the Christian faith rushing to the tv cameras to condemn the oklahoma city bombing, eric rudolph's terror spree, multiple abortion clinic bombings and murders of doctors, the religious terrorism that had a grip on northern ireland...and i definitely don't recall ANY criticism heaped on them...

bro.. in Qur'an it is said that - If a person kills another person it is as though he has killed the whole of humanity. and if a person saves another person's life it is as though he has saved the whole of humanity. Islam is the religion of peace. And If u study Islam u will find that not even a single principle of Islam is against humanity as a whole. Islam strongly condemns any act of terrorism. but brother, there are blackships in every community, right? Hitlar was the cause of 6 million death. He was the biggest terrorist of all time. He was a christian. Can I blame christianity for that? no. similarly if a small radical group of muslims commit an act of terrorism, you can not blame Islam for that
