go to the west highland white terrier club of america website.. then start interviewing breeders, find a reputable one.. and go to their house many many many times BEFORE you get your pup,, the responsible breeder will educate you and tell you everything you need to know... as long as you own the dog , i might add also.

All I can say from the veterinary side of things is that Westies are #1 for skin allergies. Make sure you buy from a reputable breeder with no skin issues in their lines or you'll spend the next 15 years at the vets for treatment. Grooming can be hand stripping, and you can learn how to do this (it is very time consuming) or they can be clipped at a groomers every month or two. They are about the same size as Cairn Terriers (like Toto from the wizard of Oz)--maybe 15-20 lbs.

Shoot, my neighbores have one....he is a little over a year old and barks constantly. they said that they shave him down twice a year...looks like a rat.
You should bathe a dog like every 3 month...brushing everyday helps keep the coat clean and smelling good.
Training: small dogs are in general harder to train but westies are stubborn.
Feeding...twice a day a good quality food. Do some research on it...not everybody like pedigree.
Try AKC.org and look for the breed. They'll give you the info about any breed....

Westies make excellent pets.
They are smart and stubborn, so you need a firm hand when training.

Individual size is hard to determine. For adverage sizes, go to the AKC website.

Grooming:
You can have a professional do it, or show you how. Dogs should get baths about every 2 weeks or so.

Enjoy your new pet.

You should get all of this info from the breeder, if he cannot supply it though I'd reconsider getting a dog from him and find someone who can
