we did take him to ER vet after we were told to give him 25mg of benadryl which we did. ER vet did not feel it was due to either, said to finish giving him oral Baytril and Baytril eardrops starting tomorrow. His muzzle has gone down tremendously; he is very dopey from benadryl. Did eat and drink. We are really looking for other responses from people who might have had similar problems with their animals after these meds. thanks

The answer to your question is yes, the dog had an allergic reaction. However, he seems to be responding well to the Benadryl so he should be fine. I would keep a very close watch on him and if you see anything else that just doesn't look right, get him back to the vet. At this point, that would be a pretty remote possibility. Benadryl is a great thing to have on hand all the time. Hope all turns out well. It sounds as though you have done the right thing.

It is possible, but I've never seen a Baytril reaction like that. It sounds like an allergic reaction to something, though. Steroids would actually be given for this type of reaction. You really should go to the vet for treatment, as the throat can also swell and interfere with breathing. Steroids do not have a lot of side effects in dogs when used correctly. They can be life saving for so many reasons.

You should have taken the dog back to the vet. It sounds like an allergic reaction to me. Some animals can even have allergic reactions to regular vaccines.

I work at a vet hospital and can tell you that he is having an allergic reaction. You need to take him to your vet ASAP so they can give him a shot to stop the swelling.

I always oppose steroid both for my human and fur family, they can do much more harm than good. Your dog is having a bad reaction, get him back to the vet ASAP
