I'd like to go somewhere close to Los Angeles. Maybe near Ojai,or Lancaster, Santa Barbara. If possible with trees that will shade us but allow us to see the nite sky. Any suggestions?

there are camping sites up along the Highway 150, and in Ojai. The best time of year has been August and after 1am.

Never heard of meteor showers in the SoCal area. If you want a beautiful starry night, just go out in the desert area where there are no city lights to interfere.

Ummm, meteor showers don't happen on a seasonal basis my dear. They are not a nightly occurring phenomenon and you can't set a time for them. And if they happen, it is only for a brief moment.

no many in LA too many lights
but if you are looking in the area, try Hwy 2 on a moonless night, a few camping areas on it but it is fire season now
