My daugher was not quite 2 yrs old when receiving her play kitchen. She didn't exactly get the concept at that age but still enjoyed opening all the doors, oven and liked the play phone. Certain objects were not age appropriate at the time so I put those things away until she was ready for them. She's 4 1/2 now and still plays with it and is more creative with it now. So yes,go ahead and buy that kitchen for your nephew,he will play with it in many ways as he gets older and will grow into it. Just a suggestion, ask your sister if this is something she wants her child to have right now.

I would say age 2 would be better for a kitchen or workshop.
I would find an age appropriate gift.
Maybe a crib entertainment toy. You know the things you can hang on the side of a crib that has different activities and sounds when they touch different areas. It will give mom and dad a little more sleep time in the mornings too,.... :o)

No, it's a little too advanced for a one-year-old. Wait until he's two or three, and he can enjoy pretend play (which is what the toy kitchen is).
Blocks, nesting cups, bath toys, clothes, toys they can ride or push, board books, Baby Einstein or Baby Elmo videos. The kind of multiple jack-in-the-box toys where they can push or twist a button and Elmo, Big Bird, Oscar, Ernie and Cookie Monster pops up. A Baby Tad (a little baby frog toy from Leap Frog that plays music and teaches shapes and colors) was one of my son's favorite first birthday presents.

I think so, we got my daughter one for Christmas when she was 15 months. I love to cook and while in the high chair in the kitchen my daughter was always playing with our plastic containers and wooden spoons.
The only thing to be careful of is the smaller food and utensil pieces. We got her a Little Tykes one that we stored some of the small pieces away and bought some cheap dollar store plastic spoons and ladles. She's 4 now and still plays with that toy kitchen almost every day. We waited until she turned 3 to give her the smaller accessories.

I think its premature. They really don't get the idea of pretend play until 2-3 years of age. Mine liked a dancing elmo, stacking stars that lit up and made sounds, a keyboard that lit up and had tempos, that sort of thing.

sure why not, if there's nothing to be a choking hazard... my 16 month old daughter plays in our real kitchen all the time

No she is way too young, try toys with sounds and lights and music, they usually love that stuff.
