Not as bad as it used to. Still, it will get old quick. It has plenty of nutrition and calories but not much taste.
When you finish your training and are in a real unit, you'll be able to eat what you want where you want but if you're in the barracks you won't have a stove. Course what single soldier uses one of those anyway. There'll probably be a microwave though.
Since the Army is making you 3 square meals a day, we won't be giving you anything extra for those meals you eat elsewhere, no matter how bad our cooks make it taste.

In basic training you cannot bring your own food, and if you get food in the mail from family, expect to be humiliated somehow. Once you graduate and get to your unit you will live either in barracks or on your own (depending if you are married), and you can get whatever kind of food you want, whether you buy food or eat at the chow hall thats up to you, chow hall isnt that great, I always had to salt and pepper the hell out of it. My advice, get married to a wonderful cook like I did! When you are deployed, the chow halls in Iraq (as of the last year and a half) are great! They gave you big portions and different varieties. But are you seriously that worried about food right now?

In basic training you eat with everyone else for the three daily meals. You can buy food and snacks any time you are off duty.
Once you are trained and sent to a base you may live in a dorm and eat in the cafeteria. Meals are free. If you are married you may be able to live in off base housing and cook real meals. You are paid a separate rations payment for food.
I found that the best food was in the Navy open mess. They ran the "restaurants" in Saigon and they were restaurants with menus and waitress service for a flat price.

Except in a training environment, like basic and AIT, you can buy your own food, eat out when you want, or even skip meals if you desire. Some soldiers, like those married and living off base, get extra money to eat outside of the mess hall.
As for the quality of food...there is a lot of it. What can I say? They cook to please the palate of a thousand people, so they skimp on the spices, use lower grade food than you would buy for yourself, and they repeat meals over and over. But it's free, so what do you want? It beats MREs.

ohh god, you never wanna try that. I know this one guy in Basic. His mom sent him a box of cookies. Drill Sargeant made him eat the entire thing. After like 6 hours he threw it all up. Never bring food into the army. Generally Army food is made specifically to meet the needs of soldiers. For example, probably alot more protein for muscle, carbohydrates for Energy...

No...you cannot bring ur own food. Food in Basic Training varies.... many of us liked the Dining Facility food it was kinda how we put on weight, hated the hot eggs (field food), and loved MREs. Generally the food is quiet satisfactory.

The allowance of personal food to Basic Training is not permitted.
Generally, depending on where you are based, the food isn't as bad as many people make it out to be. I rather enjoyed the food myself. You may notice though that after eating you may want to run to the latrine to releave yourself.

I was in the Air Force, which had very good food. I have dined in Navy dining halls, which are the very best, and Army dining halls which are awful !!!!
If you join the military for food quality, go with the Navy.

ummm, no, at least not in bootcamp. After bootcamp you will probably live in a dorm type setting with a cafeteria, but you may be able to buy your own food. It's typical institutionally made cafeteria type food, probably similar to school cafeteria food.

No, not when you go to Boot Camp. And do not get caught taking food from the chow hall either.
