Hi~ We have 7 birds and 3 are Cocktails. If your bird is used to being with a friend, then please buy him a friend. They are social birds and like to be with you and with other birds. Simon my gray Cocktail has grown up with the parakeets and one in particular he hangs out with. You don't want to be alone, neither does he

First of all, I am SO sorry for your loss. Some people don't realize just how much of a family member that our pets become and this is a deep loss for you.

He CAN be alone, but if he has gotten used to having a female around all of the time, you might want to try getting another one for him so he has the companionship.
Don't be discouraged if it takes a little bit of time for him to totally accept the new bird, but it usually happens.

So sorry about your bird. He may like company, but please plan on keeping the new bird quarantined for 30 days to make sure it isn't sick. Then place the cages next to each other and give them plenty of time to get used to each other before trying to make them live in the same cage. They have personalities, and you never know if they will like each other or not--just like people! :)

Get him a new one. =) I think he'd be happier, I don't think coctiels really mourn. I think he'd be a lot happier and less lonely.
