I just installed a new battery about 4 weeks ago. When I am running the machine the ampmeter doesn't move and the Battery doesn't charge. I can jump start it and it pops right off.! Any suggestions on problem and also on repair ?(How easy or hard to repair)

You didn't say what engine is in the mower. On briggs and stratton engines there is a diode in the line between the alternator and ignition switch. It should put out 28volts AC measured prior to the diode. It should read 3 amp DC down stream of the diode. There is also a lighting system wire coming from the alternator without a diode, it should read 14 volts ac with the lights off. Check the output of the alternator prior to the diode, this will tell if it is the alternator or the diode. Most likely it is the diode. Check all your wire connections including ground wires, it could be just a bad connection or unplugged wire.

Quick and easy way to see if charging system is working.

After Jump starting the mower, remove either (preferably negative) battery cable. If mower continues to run, the charging system is charger. If mower dies, it is not.....

Hope this helps,

Dave
