Kidney stones are probably one of the most uncomfortable things to have. Most kidney stones end up blocking your urine from leaving your kidneys. Kidneys filter your blood and take all of the toxins out of it... the toxins are secreated in your urine leaving the body. When you have a stone the tube from the kidney to the bladder (called the ureter) gets blocked and this causes the sypmtoms you described. It can also cause blood in the urine and in rare cases can rupture that tube. I haven't heard of anyone who gets treatment dieing... most doctors are able to get the stones out or break them up. This is done in the operating room and the little pieces are passed more easily.
Kidney stones are pretty common and once you've had one most people will get another one. They don't really have a cause other than build up of minerals. Diet can be altered to help... have your dad ask his urologist what kinds of things he should or shouldn't eat. Tell him to also drink lots of water (about 10 glasses a day) this will help the passage of the stone! Good Luck!!

I'm 16 years old, and I've had 4 kidney stones since I was 12.
Kidney stones aren't healthy, at all, but the only way that you could die from one is if it's grapefruit sized in your bladder (this is possible, I'm not joking). A regular kidney stone is just very painful, and is comparable to having a baby. This isn't a pleasant experience, but he will live.
There are several ways kidney stones can form...so have him avoid these things, and he should be okay.
1. Obviously, drink a LOT of water...2 gallons a day is just over the reccommended amount...1.5 gallons is a little low...so somewhere near 1.75 gallons per day.
2. Avoid Dark sodas/drinks. Pepsi, Coke, Tea of any kind, Coffee, or any other colored drink is bad for you, unless it is natural fruit juice.
3. Avoid diuretics, or any drink that makes you have to pee. You lose a lot of fluid this way. Some main diuretics are Gatorade and Lemonade.
4. Avoid turkey. It has a substance called Calcium-Oxilate which makes up over 75% of all kidney stones.
5. Have a low sodium diet. Don't put extra salt on things...eat them how they are. Salt is an unnecessary seasoning.
6. High potassium diets are good, so Potatoes (with skin) and Bananas are great to avoid kidney stones.

Infection would be the only thing that could be fatal. He was sweating and vomiting because he was in so much pain. They have a new procedure where they put you to sleep and break-up the kidney stone, and then you drink plenty of fluids and the stone will pass.(The stone is broken up into little pieces). Most of the time the doctor will just send you home, and let you pass them with fluids and pain medication. They rarely use surgical procedures these days. He may want to get on some alperinol(spelling is wrong)just ask the doctor. Drinking beer can make stones appear. Just drink alot of water, and cranberry juice.

Some puppies principally Dalmatians produce plenty a uric acid and therefore they get stones. Perhaps a vet might solutions your query. All I recognise is that there are operations to eliminate kidney stones and a beautiful Dally that I knew had an op whilst he was once twelve years historic. If your puppy has an op, it is going to remedy the quandary, nonetheless I suppose that diets can avoid a re prevalence. Investigate grain loose diets at the Internet. Because kidney stones are extra normal in Dally's maybe you will have to begin investigating diets for Dally's. I do admire that your puppy isn't a Dalmation nonetheless, I can guarantee you that given the proper medication that your puppy will probably be OK.

Passing a kidney stone is more painful than having a baby according to my Grandmother. Vomiting and turning yellow means go to the hospital.

Not that I have ever heard of. I've had many kidney stones and they are extremely painful but not deadly. Even the most difficult stone can be treated medically.
Try cutting down on calcium. No antacids that contain calcium. No vitamin C especially the buffered kind. Once I stopped, then no more stones.

We can die from many things, so we have to take care of ourselves. I passed one once, it was so painful they gave me morphine.
The stone doesn't belong in his body so it has to come out, but the overweight-ness is the danger for his heart, blood pressure, back pain, stroke, hard to breathe from bearing all that fat.
But usually kidney stones don't threaten life as far as I know, unless it stays in..
