A two part question:

1) I'm trying to understand your reasons behind this idea that it is wrong to question religion. It appears to me that each time someone posts a question about religion in a manner that questions the practice or beliefs of that religion, people of that religion react in a negative manner. Why? What is wrong with questioning religion?

2) Why don't you question your own religion?

I question my beliefs. I don't think it is wrong. As when I question, or am questioned, I study and get stronger in my faith, which is Christianity.

I personally think it's a very creative thing to question a certain belief or doubt since fear, which is the most basic of negative feelings, only arises from the unknown and the unknown arises from ignorance. I have a pretty good idea about why people react in a negative way when someone questions religion: it's because they try (out of fear for the things they don't understand) to shut off everything that questions the things they try to cling to in life. Ideas however are not statical and it is natural to question something and to try to bring light on the matter rather than to close your eyes and try to feel around in order to find the way. Most people however are too afraid of the unknown to face it.. they will need to face it however because the light is inside them weather they currently want it or not.

1) I don't believe it is wrong to question religion, and I'm a Christian.

2) I don't know what you mean by question your own religion. I am continually learning more and more about it. Soon I'll be checking out books on the Crusades and the Inquisition. Too many people ask questions here about these subjects and I suspect none of them have actually researched the history of these events. So I will do so. Is this what you mean about questioning my religion?

I dont think it is wrong to question other peoples beliefs..

I do question my own beliefs... My being Christian is not just because my parents were... I studied all faith systems... I am also an ex Atheist...{gasp shock}
Buddism
Islamic faith
Mormonism
JW's...{I could not stomach much of that and while I did study it I did not dwell long there}
The Jewish faith
Seventh Day Adventist
as well as a whole string of others... before I settled on the Christian faith.. It was the only thing that made sense to me.... Do I have all the answers? absolutly not... But if my Godwas so small I could wrap my brain around him, he would not be worthy of my worship..

I welcome any and all who are curious about my beliefs..

I am a Christian and have been for 30 something years. It is not wrong to question any religion, even your own, whatever that may be. The Christian is encouraged by God to test the spirits, whether they be of Him or not. Satan is the greatest imitator in history and God says he would fool even the elect....if it were possible. That means that if you have the Holy Spirit living inside you, you will know if something is not from God. I concede that you might be fooled temporarilly, but sooner or later you will realize when the religion is not quite right. That's one of the benefits of having the indwelling Holy Spirit.

If you mean by reacting in a negative manner to accusations about what we believe, I guess we do. We can't agree to what we think is false, can we? If you mean that we become mean spirited when you don't agree with our beliefs, I think you are generalizing. We don't all get nasty, but I agree some do. I've always attributed that to their mood or personality rather than their beliefs. All sides do that occassionally.

As to the last question...I have questioned my religion early on. I want to know exactly what I believe in, what God means when He says something, why we do or don't do certain things, what is expected of a Christian, what exactly God's plan of salvation involves and how it works, etc., etc., etc. I settled all these questions early on in my faith and I continue to question other concepts that are new to me. God wants us to do that. But, in all this, it is the Holy Spirit that reveals truth to me. I think all Christians have questions as they learn more and more about God. To assume we don't is erroneous at best, and just throwing more false accusations on the Christian and putting us all in one category again at it's worst.

If you really want to understand, understand this: we do question our religion, but once convinced by God, nothing can change our minds. Now, what's wrong with that? Let's just say, we have a personal relationship with God, and He communicates with us through the Holy Spirit, mostly. If you don't have the Holy Spirit indwelling you, you can't possibly know what that's like. In a family there's a father, mother, children. The father communicates with the mother and the children. They all understand how the system works and they all know when the father is telling them something. There's no doubt of his meaning whether he talks to mom or the kids. No one can change their mind about what father means to communicate to them, because they know him personally, they know his character, they know how he wants them to live, and they understand him completely. So it is with God, our heavenly Father and the Holy Spirit, our comforter and guide. We children of God know what lines up with God's character, His will, His rules to live by, because we know Him personally through Jesus Christ, His Son. It's true, our belief does not come from worldly resources. That is where the world thinks we're nuts. But, God created this world. The world doesn't have any thing to add to God's intelligence. He knows how we can be happy and content better than we do. His direction will give us the best life here on earth we could possibly have. He loves us and wants only the best for us. Once you know His character, you can trust Him with every aspect of your life. You must understand that He has proven Himself to the Christian...it's an individual thing. You can tell a friend they can trust someone, but until they have done it and that person has credibility with them personally, it doesn't mean much. Each individual Christian has a history with God....what He has helped them through, what He has done for them, what He has taught them about life, etc. Nothing can change your mind when you have history with Him. He has proven Himself over and over to you and no one is gonna change your mind. That's how it works.

Firstly, it is a good idea to question religion. There are many false religions so it is good to question religion if you do so politely and with a decent heart. Unfortunately, most that question religion do so with meanness and taunting, even ridicule buried deep in their hearts. They laugh at Christianity though most of all Christianity is false. There is one true religion. Do you know what that is?

It means your life to question religion. You should question it because most of it is false; not all, but most all religions are false based on false teachings and blasphemy. If you do not question religions, how will you know which one is true?

Questions and deep prayer to Jehovah God with a sincere heart will show you the right path to life; to truth.

Lastly, I find that I do have to block my account because of racists, atheists, and other trouble making filth on this forum who love to follow me around and report all of my answers just for the sake of being evil; not for anything good, but for being evil, so I must block my account due to the evil trolls that surf this site in an effort to cause maliciousness to decent people just to see them get violations and/or get their accounts deleted. They troll around in their wickedness giving you thumbs down, signing in then out, then in again under an anonymous user name to harass and target you. Have you had this happen to you before?

You have to protect yourself even on here because there is so much evil that persists. Most doing it ARE ADULTS. Does that tell you anything?

I hope I've helped.

i am a muslim. i question islam everyday. islam is one of the most strict religions in the world!!! for example, i question why a muslim woman cannot marry a non-muslim man and a muslim man can marry a christian or jewish woman? there is no actual proof of any religion, its all consists of beliefs. human beings make beliefs and surely humans can make mistakes. KEEP IN MIND THAT I AM NOT SAYING THIS DIRECTLY TO A RELIGION OR ITS PEOPLE, AND THAT I AM JUST MAKING A GENERAL OBSERVATION! i believe that everyone has the right to question things things that they don't understand or don't believe in.

1) i cant speak for those you refer to but the Bible records times when people questioned Jesus, and he said that his followers would be also.... so i see nothing wrong in others questioning the Bible

2) if by "question" you might mean, reject.... then no. i dont. what i dont understand of the Bible i pray about and somewhere along the line i come to an acceptable resolving of the issue

I'm a Christian, and I think there's nothing wrong with questioning things and doing research. You should know why you believe what you do. I used to belong to a cult-ish group, so my opinion is that any group that tells you not to look at information from all sides is bad news.

Well, I react in a negative manner towards people who question my beliefs because usually they post false things and sources. rumors that flit around and are believed.

I don't question my own religion because I know it is from God, and I have prayed to Him, and He answered me, and I know without a doubt that it is true.
