I count every thing when ever I get the chance. I count the floor tilles in the bathroom over and over when I am sitting in the bathroom. Kitchen cabinet doors, flowers on the plate pattern, squars of the window, and I also count them in pairs like 2 4 6 8 10. And I don't like it when thing don't pair up. I count how many walls there are in a room and or how many angels. Please advise me, and if you know of a website that will help me recognize my disorder I will apretiatet it

I used to do that when I was younger. I would count the syllables when people would talk. It drove me crazy. I also checked to make sure the door was locked like 5 times before I went to bed and that the stove was turned off another 5 times :) Over time, I grew really, really sick of it and started consciously trying not to do it. It's hard at first but it will go away for the most part. I haven't done that for about 5 years now (I am 31). Whenever you're repeating something that you dont like, I know it sounds simple but you just have to stop and soon you'll forget about it. If you start again (usually during stress or boredom) just remind yourself not to do it.

You're a leprechaun!

But seriously, your just playing a game that interest you. You have a good imagination. Start looking for things you can apply it to. Like music, musicians count a lot. If you have love for sound or a particular instrument or band, this may be your opportunity to make good use of your ability to count. And being able to count things in pairs helps there too.

Try to find other people who are also creative and like to do things with their imaginations. Have fun with it while you still can. If you're lucky, it'll become permanent.

It doesn't qualify as a disorder if it doesn't cause problems in your life.

I wouldn't worry about it unless:

1. You can't stop even if you want to.
2. It keeps you from getting things done that you have to do.
3. It makes you really anxious or upset if you don't count.

If any of these things are true, you might want to tell a doctor about it.

If not, you just have an unsual habit.

Look up "obsessive compulsive disorder". I use to be bad with it. I would click the lights on and off until I got that perfect "click". I would drive with my eyes closed and count to 13. Thirteen was my number lol. I was even OCD with my glasses. I would adjust them and adjust them until my nose hurt.

The psychiatrist gave me Zoloft but I was also suffering from depression. I threw my first bottle away because I felt that I didn't really need it. That was when I was 18. I'm 28, now. If it is interrupting your life, you need to see a doctor.

Lonnie makes sense, too.

Repetitive behavior is commonly associated with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). It can range from counting tiles to constantly worrying about the roof caving in. Should you have OCD your case is extremely minor. Absolutely nothing to be concerned about. I still suffer from bouts with OCD that are far worse than counting tiles, but still harmless to my mental wellbeing.

No you have a mind that is constantly looking for answers and it is really quite normal. I like to try an figure out things like what does 1thru 100 add up, to answer 100 times 50 plus 50. One thru 99 equals 99times50. Your completely normal.

Sounds like you might have somewhat of an obsessive-compulsive disorder. If you're concerned about it, you might want to speak with you family doctor about referring you to a psychologist or a psychiatrist. Don't think the WWW would help you out much!

Good luck and God bless!

thats not exactly normal but i don't think you have a problem either. If you just count in your head and not outloud i don't think there's anything wrong with that. and if you dont get visibly frustrated when things don't pair up. but i'm kinda like that too, about the pairs thing. i get that way about colors too. But i don't think there's anything wrong with you.
