Silkenhijab ,the Tamil tigers are politically motivated.Even if what you are saying is true ; it doesn't give you the right to murder. There is no excuse for murder.

Is there really a difference? They follow exactly the same teachings, so they must believe in exactly the same things

Even the most extreme Buddhist wouldn`t kill - it`s against their belief system.
You can`t tell the diference between "moderate" and "extremist" Muslims until they strike. The Americans had this problem in Vietnam ,until the VC hit you they looked like every other native around you.

The same way you can tell a difference between any extremist and a moderate in other religions. By the way they act.

As salaamu 'alaikym, my friend.

The politically incorrect and somewhat comical answer would be that the explosize vest usually gives the extremist away.

Insha'Allah, the correct answer would be that true Muslims follow the teaching of the Holy Qur'an and the Sunnah Hadith, living in peace (Islam means peace), fighting only in self defence, the defence of others who can not defend themselves and in defence of their faith.
They love their families.
They are fair and honest in all of their personal and business dealings.
They are respectful of the faiths and opinions of others.
They give regularly to charity, pray five times a day, attend the Friday service at the masjud and are truly good persons. They are usually well educated and often speak, read and write more than two languages.
They speak out agains the extremist and call for an end to all of the violence in the name of Islam and Allah Subhanna wa Ta'ala. (Unfortuantely, they are seldom heard because their actions are not sensational enough to make the nightly news in this country.)

The radical extremist are usually uneducated, illiterate and impoverished.
They have often been mislead by persons who misconstrue the Words of Allah Subhanna wa Ta'ala as the same is revealed in the Holy Qur'an for their own personal gain.

Ignorance is a terrible thing. The exploiting of ignorance is worse. Bigotry and hatred are bred out of ignorance and are used by the truly evil.

Ma'a salaam.

It's the level of delusion that separates them.

Believers ... shall fight in the way of Allah and shall slay and be slain. It is a promise which is binding on Him in the Torah and the Gospel and the Qur'an. 9:111
