She only whines because you have been allowing her to, and haven't been consistent. You need to ignore the whining, and go with positive reinforcement instead of the negative. It's NOT a phase, it's a behaviour problem which you and your husband need to deal with ASAP. If you are sick of it, so are her friends, and her teachers....

My daughter is 6 and she whines all the time to and I hope it is just a phase. But one suggestion is to not ignore her but ignore her behavior. So if she is asking for something in a whiny voice explain to her that if she wants your attention she needs to talk to you in a normal voice. Then don't answer her until she does so. This usually works for me but you do have to be consistent and hope that it is something she will grow out of. Good luck!!!

My daughter was a real champion whiner when she was about 3 years old. My rule was that we didn't use language like "I can't" in our house, but rather "I'll try". I became her biggest cheerleader and used every opportunity to encourage her, build up her confidence, help her experience success repeatedly, and convince her that she could do anything. This took a lot of time initially, but before long, she wasn't whining anymore. As she got older, I gave her more and more opportunities to show me what she was capable of. She is now an independent, strong, 27 year old woman, and believe me, she still really believes that she can do literally anything.

If she wants or demands something that is unecessary then you should ignore her. Just continue to cook or do whatever. That'll let her know that she can't get whatever she wants. Put her in a timeout and make her think about what she did for seven minutes (because she is 7 and 7 mins is a long time for her). Then when seven mins is up, asked her what did she learn out of this and if she continues to do that give her another 7 mins. When she learns her lesson praise her and don't scold her.

I have an 8 year-old brother that complains about everything. Just like you, I have tried everything to straighten him out. I believe it is just a phase that occurs in childhood now because they want everything they see. Don't give her everything she wants. If you just let her whine, I think she will get tired of it eventually and realize she isn't going to get everything.

Ignore her when she whines. She is doing it to get your attention and it is working. HItting her isn't going to solve the problem, it is only going to teach HER that it is okay to hit when one is frustrated as well as teach her that her mother doesn't have the intelligence to parent effectively without hitting. Hitting does not promote respect, it promotes fear and resentment and consequently disrespect.

applying the love and logic theory of parenting, i would tell her that you'll "gladly listen and talk to her when she uses a mature way of communicating" and ignore her unless she communicates the way you feel is appropriate. show her how by example, so she learns how to communicate back and forth properly between two people. explain to her that that's how the world works and that's how you get what you want.

I tell my daughter that I don't understand "Whinese" and that if she wants to talk to me that she can talk to me in her normal voice. If she keeps whining I ignore her.
