HELP! I just bought 2 parakeets about 4 hours ago. They had to ride home for 4 hours. They seemed fine on the way, they were chirping and all, but when I got home and picked up their cage and brought them in, they didn't seem right. One of them is blue and the other is green. My blue one is a little stressed I guess, but it is sitting on the post. My green one is the one I am concerned about. It is sitting on the bottom of the cage doing absolutley nothing. It looks puffed up, like it is scrunching together. It is also pooping but it is green and runny. What does this mean? What should I do?

I have a green and blue parakeet, too. When I brought the green one home(sweet pea)she had an awful time adjusting to my blue keet(mr. peepers). Runny poo poo and the whole bit. It took alittle time. I consoled her every time I walked by the cage and spent alot of time sweet talking her! They will relax to the tone of your voice. While at work, I left soft music on. Make sure the tempature is appropriate, not too cold for them. If poo poo hasn't cleared up soon, it could be time to call your vet or pet store. Also, they love millet, and buy stress vitamins for them from a pet store. Mostly, let them know they are loved and are not in harm's way! They need to feel safe. It does take time for them to adjust! Also, check out afew library books on keets. They help alot.

It does sound like they are very stressed. When I brought mine home, it took them several days to start to move around much or chirp. Can't tell if the little green one is sick or not and the stress of the trip and new cage is making him worse. He shouldn't be sitting on the bottom of the cage. Keep the cage in a quiet place and just leave them alone with fresh food and water. If the little one doesn't come around and start perching, a vet visit may be needed.
