I agree with Class of 67....wait, I am also from the class of 67...hmmmm.

My school has had uniforms for several years. I also attended schools that required uniforms.

When everyone is in uniform it is easy to notice someone who does not belong in the school, so it is a great safety feature.

It is also easy to get dressed in the morning...no difficult choices of what to wear! It also is a great equalizer between the haves and the have nots. Everyone can attend to their studies instead of what someone is wearing. It also keeps the gangs from showing their colors in school and that in itself can help behavior issues.

The issue I have with uniforms is when teachers wear their school shirts and let them hang out when the students are required to have them tucked in or when teachers wear blue jeans on field trips when students are not permitted to do so. Teachers need to be good role models, but some feel the rules aren't meant for them.

However, I think there are more good reasons to wear uniforms than not.

Whether or not it fosters better behavior, really depends on each and every individual. I think it works both ways. It might promote worse behavior, esp. with teens who tend to be rebellious. If they feel that they're rights/individuality is being confined, then they'll most likely hold grudges and rebel against it in some way.

However, it does promote better behavior because what you wear does affect the way you behave at times. An enforced proper dress code stands a good chance of influencing better behavior/conduct. Also, people will be less distracted with who's wearing what.

So, what I'm saying is that uniforms stand a good chance of helping. In the end though, it really depends on the individual and how the school goes about it.

well everything has a positive and negative side to it. the good thing about uniforms is that people dont have to worry about who has the best clothes or stuff like that. whether it improves behavior that depends on the people not the clothes in some cases uniforms could bring people together others it wouldnt make a difference so basically the people will create the environment.

at my school i am the uniform chaiperson,i make sure all students are in their unifs. daily, and if not they get a call home to parents about their chil being out of uniform,ex. a pair of bluejeans and not navy slacks,we have been in unifs. for about 8 yrs. and our parents can be the most difficult, some say it helps with buying school clothes when all they have to do is buy unif sets, and some just want to be difficult, grades are better, attd is much better and our students donnot feel they have to compete.it is the best thing we could have done,in late aug. i have a unif. fashion show ,some students wear the correct wear and others in the show wear the things we are not to wear, such as red, footie socks, flipflop shoes ,shoe strings that are blue ,green the only color shoe strings are to be all black or all white, shoes may be all black, all brown or all white.our school tshirts are only to be worn on a class field trip with unif slacks knee length shorts or skirts.our unif colors are navyblue , white and khaki(beige)

Actually, I wish my school had uniforms. It's of stupid, really, the whole "Uniforms confine individuality" arguement. You don't have to wear certain clothes in order to be an individual.

They're not too much of a big deal.
