What a poorly worded question! The answer is B or C, although those aren't the names of the valves. Blood leaves the heart from both the right and left ventricles, and the aortic and pulmonic valves prevent it from flowing backward. Those two valves are semilunar.
The aortic valve is only half right, as blood could flow back from the lungs without the pulmonic valve. The tricuspid valve sits between the right atrium and right ventricle, and the mitral valve (which is bicuspid) sits between the left atrium and left ventricle.
Here's a picture:

The person who wrote the question might be looking for A, but I'd raise the point about the pulmonic valve also being important.
Good luck with THAT question.

This is obviously a trick question, the aortic valve stops blod from flowing back into the heart but so does the (unmentioned) pulmonary valve
The answer is the SEMILUNAR valves, semilunar valves are any valves that stop blood from flowing back into the heart.

It's A... the aortic valve allows blood to flow out of the Left Ventricle out into the aorta which leads to the rest of the body. When the valve closes it prevents the blood from flowing backwards and the pressure moves it through the rest of the body.

Here is the correct answer. Blood is prevented from going back into the heart once it leaves the heart via the semilunar valves. so the C is what you want. Now go and have some oreos.

I don't know what with all the information about the heart and it's valves on the web I'll have to say this is an MCAT question and you want the answer that way.
I'll say C to be safe and hope that's the best answer out of all the possibilities.
Good question though I'm glad you brought it up how's your heartbeat? Hear anything? Hope so hope this helps.

its e as the blood flows back it fills the valves pockets and closes the artery preventing back flow. its the same principle applied when you fill up disposable ice cube bags.
