I usually take 15mg of hydrocodone for my pain, but now I got switched to percocet 10mg. Is that the same thing?

Both drugs are quite effective to antagonize pain....
Oxycodone is contained in percocet, and Hydrocodone, is the hydroxy derivative of oxycodone,,,,
since the difference in action is minimal, you will have 1/3rd les analgesic potency, however, that means that your doctor considers, that you need less analgesics....
That wont kill you, however, if you feel that your pain does not subside, with the new analgesic or dose, tell to your doctor what is happening....It is wise then (if that is the case) to change the type of analgesic for another that is NOT synthetic opioid derivative, (lisine clonixinate, propionic acid derivatives, indomethacine etc), in order to avoid:
1.- Tolerance (needing twice or more the normal dose in order to achieve the same effect)
2.- Addiction....in this case, the analgesia is not important anymore, nor the pain, but the elating and euphoric producing effect of the medication proper.....

It is wise to follow your doctors advice in the meantime...

This definitely has to do with your body system and it's nothing new. Some people just have a preference for Hydrocodone over Oxys. Both hydro and oxy act at similar receptors yes, but there is some difference in the sub-receptors they bind to. This is a bit of a cmplex subject so I'll stop with the science speak. It's just that you have a preference for Hydro and it works better for you for the condition you have. This has to do purely with your system and your own neurochemistry. All of us are different and we respond differently to meds. What DynoDick suggested about hydro and oxycodone is actually on the mark and pretty accurate. Point is, we are all different and meds work differently for us. Nothing to worry about but feel free to drop me a line if you need anything more. Love, AJ To Nicole H: Perhaps you should study the SAR (Structure Activity Relationships) of Opioids. There is a lot more difference to Hydro and Oxy than just potency alone. They both have differing affinities for the different sub-receptors in the mu-opioid receptor family. Oxy is more selective for mu-1. ********** But the reason I'm directing this at you is that you have ENTIRELY PLAGIARIZED one of my previous answers to a similar question, or rather simply copied and pasted the entire thing without my permission. I'm not going to report this as I see no point but it is not polite to plagiarize and certainly against the rules here!! You have copied and pasted my answer verbatim including the stuff that doesn't even apply to this question (ie Xanax and Valium). Best part it, you even left my name at the bottom by mistake ;) Please don't do that again as it is against the rules of this forum to plagiarize from another poster. **************

yes, 10mg oxy is a might stronger than 15mg hydro as expressed that way... but not by much

your Doctor or whoever is increasing and changing the dosage and painkilling properties for your specific ailment

it is essentially the same thing. Depending on the brand of hydrocodone you were taking some percocets can be about the same effect wiht a little less dose.

its about the same balance.
but oxys cleaner smoother and makes you less nauseus
it works a little itty bitty bit better than hyrdo
