This is only an excerpt of the tab, but I think it exemplifies what I'm trying to ask. I hope it's enough, but if it's not, let me know. =)

To the trained musician that can be determineed by the surrounding notes within the chord, and the notes involved in the other chords. The trick is to determin what key the song is in and all else will fall into place. Post the tab and I'll see if I can figure it out for you. For example if you where playing C#7 and there is no marking above the 6th string you would not play that string because there is no E in a C#7 chord. Conversely if you are playing a E chord and the 6th string wasn't marked you would most likley play that note because E is the tonic of the E chord. Don't be discouraged you will learn this in time.

Other than one major detail (is there an alt. tuning involved)
If not I would say these chords are played not using the unmarked strings. And the chords on the first line are B5, C#7sus4, and D#sus2. The chords on the second line are B5, C#7sus4, and G#m.

No, usually if it has a zero you play it open, some put an x when the string it not to be played. Hope this helped. Good luck with your playing.
