There are opinions on both sides. This started about 5 years ago and medical reports are now saying that 8, 8 oz. glasses is too much. We need to count the amount of water that is included in non caffeinated drinks and in the foods we eat. Suppose you eat a lot of fruit and veggies....they are full of water and researchers are now saying that this water needs to be counted towards the 8x8. Drinking too much water can deplete your body of potassuim, B vitamins, and upset the electrolytes in your system, the same as dehydration. The key is a balance that works for your body and you will only understand what your body needs by monitoring your intake and output. Your output should be clear and odorless. If you take B vitamins, your urine will be yellow for a few hours then it should be clear and odorless. If not, drink more. If it is you have had enough. This is confusing and I had to have vitamin IV's because I was drinking too much water and I was becoming weak and losing weight like mad! The Dr.'s told me to cut back and to watch my urine just like I wrote above.
I hope this helps answer your question.

No. You need liquids in your system, but not necessarily 8 glasses of water a day.
8 glasses CAN help curb hunger and is useful when trying to lose weight, and it CAN help clean your system, but the average person can get by on much less than 8 glasses.

well I have bad skin because of my problem with acne and with the more water I consume, the better my skin gets so if anything water does something for the skin. It doesnt just help acne-prone skin but your skin overall to keep it youthful looking. Take in consideration that we are all different shape and sizes, to say we all need 8glasses of water a day is a bit much. I'm a small person myself, I feel I need less.

I'm not sure, but now that I've gotten used to drinking a half gallon of water every day, I don't want to give it up.
Come to think of it, all that water certainly isn't going to have as much of an effect as, say, eight 8 ounce glasses of double-proof Stoly's vodka.
I'll stick with the water, thank you.
