There was a statue of Jesus made in one of the visitor centers in Utah. It is said that his arms were made to be praising God, but they slowily started to move down until they look like they hang to his waist (as if to welcome his sheep or the lost).

The mormons thought it looked better so they left the statue that way.

The same statue stands in every visitors center I have ever been to. I've been Mormon all my life and never heard that story...just another Urban Legend for Snopes.com

The Christus statue in the Salt Lake Temple Visitors Center (also in some other visitors centers) is not an original work of art but a replicate of the work of Albert Bertel Thorvaldsen (1770-1844). The LDS Church did not modify the position of his arms.

I've seen the statue many times, but I have never heard that. Sounds interesting.

I heard that if you stand anywhere in the VC and look at the statue, his eyes are STILL LOOKING AT YOU!

Wow - It's one thing to see Jesus, but quite another to claim He Sees You at the same time.

I once saw the ghost of a dead gopher my dad smacked with a hammer. It spoke to me in a loud and clear voice and said "Your fly is unzipped!"

Ha! A lie! I was wearing Levi 501 button fly jeans...

you're talking about the huge Jesus statue that talks in different languages when you press different buttons? i am not Mormon, but temple square is quite pretty around Christmas time. the tabernacle, now THAT is a peaceful place. so quiet when no one is in there.

It was the artist who decided he liked it better the way it is.
