I have light off white carpeting. And if my step daughter is out playing with bare feet I think she should wash them. They get black. She will even go to bed like this, she is 14

I don't think your being picky. I am the same way, i make my kids take off their shoes at the door and i just have throw down rugs on wood floors. I think it teaches them some sort of responsibility. Don't feel bad, your the one who has to clean it!!

No, you're not picky. I go barefoot everywhere, but when I go to someone's house who has a 'no shoe' rule intended to keep the outdoor dirt out, I either wipe *very* well or offer to wash my feet. Personally I don't care, I have a sturdy, dark colored carpet I'm very happy with, I'll just vacuum whatever is tracked in & besides the cats don't wipe their paws at all :) But I respect people who have chosen light carpet and want to keep it nice looking. I don't think you're unreasonable to expect that from your step daughter too.

I think putting a bowl of water at the door is a good idea, or you could try a door mat specifically for bare feet; I haven't tried this product but one of my online barefoot friends recently bought one and reported it worked better on bare feet than regular doormats (I'm not affiliated in any way with this company, just passing on the information). http://www.gardeners.com/Sandy-Feet-Door-Mat/default/StandardCatalog.Mudroom.37-377.cpd

My grandkids would come in, kick their flip flops off by the door. And then get my pale beige carpet very dirty with their dirty feet.
I had two options. I could have provided slippers to put on, and keep these right by the door. Or, get rid of the beige carpet. I chose to get rid of the carpet.
We now have laminate wood floor that can be mopped up in a hurry if it gets dirty. I really like it.

It's forbidden to even enter the main part of the house in japan with your shoes on so just tell her to either not go out barefoot or tell her straight that if she wants to go over the white carpet she is to wash her feet. It's really not to much to ask, I dunno why you had a white carpet though, that's just asking to get dirty either way.

I wouldn't want some one with dirty feet walking on my carpet no matter what the color is, thats just gross. You should put a bucket of water at the front door and make her dip her feet in it!!

Your not picky. You need to insist she wear shoes outside to play and take them off when she comes inside. I'd also teach her how to spot clean carpet. If she had to clean a few of her own messes, she may learn to be more considerate. I wouldn't let her go to bed like that either. You have to wash the bed linens.

No, I don't think you are picky. Who knows what's been on her feet? Plus, that white carpet could soon turn yellow.

If dirty carpet is one of your bigger problems, count your lucky stars. And then go volunteer at the local homeless shelter and see people who don't have ANY carpet.

Be thankful that dirt is the only thing your step-daughter is bringing in the house.

Unfortunately that's a kid for you. I wouldn't like it either, but step kids have it so hard nowadays with picky stepmothers and stepfathers, so give her a break. If it gets the best of you, just tell her, but do it nicely.

Make the kid wear flips or something, thats nasty. Or if need be, put a bucket of water outside the door and make her wash them off before entering the house.
