The shoulder blades or scapula, of which there are two, one on the left and one on the right, form a solid piece for the positioning of soft tissue and also provides a place, a joint, for the connection of the humerus bone, the long bone in the upper arm. Without the shoulder blade, all the soft muscle tissue in the shoulder are would hang down like udders off the body and your arms wouldn't operate with the power to lift that they have with the scapula in place.

Glenoid cavity keeps the head of humerus in situ. Deltoid,supraspinatus,infra spinatus and teres major are muscles arising from scapula inserted into humerus, thus facilitating abduction and rotation of arm.

y should we use shoulder blades for? uuhhh protect our body uuuuhhhhh make our arms furhter away from the body(don't want to look like a penguin now do we)and its a good place for your body to get hit with(i think) XD lol

They are primarily useful for letting us know when we have been pinned in a wrestling match. And if our arms attached to our ribs instead, then parents would not be able to breathe when they picked up their children.
