I'm so sorry to hear that. Some kittens don't thrive, I hope you don't blame yourself. We always feel we can do more, we didn't do the right thing, etc. Sometimes these things, sadly, do happen.

That said, next time you get a kitten, don't bathe it, though. Just get a towel with lukewarm water and pat the kitten they way a mom would. Then, dry it off the same way. Cat shampoos, hot water, cold water, etc. aren't good for kittens. They don't need baths like dogs or people, and a lot of those products are terrible for them.

I really doubt the your kitten passed away by a bath. Many people and shampoos say do not give a kitten a bath under a certain age. I have had many cats and kittens in my life time. I have the tendency to always bring home a stray. I have even gave my kittens at age three weeks old with flea shampoo. I was think the kitten could have been born with a serious problem without symptoms. I would not blame yourself. Thanks Animal lover.

I'm sooo sorry about your kitten because I love cats and I've never had a kitten before. I agree with Miss Understood on the water temperature and shampoo brands. The only thing that no one has covered yet was the age. I he/she was a really young kitten it might have not been the best idea to bathe it because it might have not been ready for that yet. They also have this spray shampoo that you can use with a towel and you don't need any water.
Once again I'm very sorry about your kitten and I hope you are doing okay too.

If your kitten was under the age of 12 weeks and you gave it a flea bath then it might have died from the shampoo. Its toxic to kittens less than 12 weeks old.

You are repeating your qustion but your using a cat in the other question. You said that your cat died during a bath and this question you are saying your kitten died during a bath. Which one is it?

The water may have been too hot. Sometimes kittens can panic and have heart failure. Sometimes cats do need baths, but you have to be careful. If you didn't use kitten shampoo then it may have had some toxins in it that. Even if it didn't injest it, it may have soaked into its skin.

When kitten are 8 weeks and under they are very easy to frighten. They get acred easily and panic. I also find they dont like to be picked up unless they come to you. I picked a kitten up the other day and he was so scared I thought eh was gonna have a heart attack. That beign said he probably just paniced and hat a heart attack.

So sorry to hear that. Cats usually cats don't like baths but a bath will NOT cause it to die unless it was ill to begin with and that was NOT your fault. Don't blame yourself or let any one else blame you either.
A lot of people even take their cats to the groomers to get bathed. This was just an unfortunate coincidence.
he was probably sick before you even did this.

Felicia

If knowing why is important to you, take the kitten to the vet for a necropsy. I'm so sorry.

My poor cat did the same thing. He panicked and either had a heart attack or stroke. It was sudden...like suddenly he just slumped over.
