Purchased and the promise of life given to us... The indwelling of the believer by God Himself in the person of the Holy Spirit... You sound like a true sister in Christ. Jim

The church is the body of believers and followers of Jesus Christ. We absolutely could not have the church if it was not for the ultimate sacrifice that Jesus made.

The church is not a building but is described in Scripture as pertaining the body of Christ (Christian believers). I suppose that does dictate, then, that we couldn't have it until the path was opened for us to become members of Christ's body--through His atoning work.

It is interesting to note that the word does not appear in the OT, rather, the meeting place was called the tabernacle, and later, the temple.

And what do you make of the fact that Mormons still call their meeting places "temples", JW's call theirs "kingdom halls", Freemasons have "lodges", etc., etc. ? Only mainstream Christianity still calls their worship place a "church", I think that is telling.

Wow. Makes you wonder then, why those who crucified Jesus have been so reviled by Christianity when it was their act that established the church in the first place..

Under this definition (which is accurate) you could have many churches. But what would the body of the church believe in? It could be anything....................

Christ did not buy the church for us, He bought our salvation. It is our acceptance of this, that the church is established on.

Without His sacrifice our church would be meaningless, but we could still have one..........
