Most Broadway tunes are geared toward seconds and altos. If the music for this production is a little more classical then try something from Rodgers and Hammerstein (Sound of Music, South Pacific). If it's more upbeat try something punchier like Kander and Ebb (Chicago, Cabaret).

HOWEVER When preparing for an audition always check to see if the people who will audition you have criteria for what they want to hear. If there isn't any criteria, sing whatever you sing best. REMEMBER If you don't HAVE to learn a song for an audition-- DON'T!!!

Sing whatever it is that you sing best (even if it's a hymn). It is especially important to sing something that you enjoy singing. This is what will show your talent the best.

If you have a few songs that you sing really well and you need to choose think about the following:

Don't sing anything that is really long. I have had to sit through This is the Moment (a funny name for an hour long song) from Jekyll and Hyde too many times in auditions. That said, if your best song is a long song you can make it work by only singing a part of it.

Don't go with songs from the latest musical (or the giants like Les Miserables). The reason is that EVERYONE will be singing the same stuff. If you only know stuff from Les Mis and Rent don't sweat it just sing your heart out.

Be on time, be energetic, if you are asked questions speak clearly. And have fun.

Check out the supply I indexed on the backside. The hyperlink additionally has well guidelines for auditioning and a seek gadget for identifying songs. It additionally lists dates and a few useful suggestions. Trust me- you can do higher by way of making a song a stand out tune that they have not already heard 15 occasions throughout auditions. Also there's a entire lot of variety among a soprano and alto. Can you hit an A above the employees? C? Or what approximately an F beneath the employees? Do you could have a extra classical, jazz, or pop sound? It's pleasant to uncover a tune that has well variety however in which you'll so much without difficulty sing at the same time projecting, generating well tone, and keep on pitch. Break a leg!

- On my own - Les Miserables.
- Out here On my Own - Fame (Irene Cara version).
- Let's play a love scene - Fame.
- Someone to watch over me - Crazy for you.
- Every Story is a Love story - AIDA.

Non-musical songs:
- Refelction - Mulan.
- Colours of the wind - Pocahontas.
- My heart will go on - Celine Dion.

Duets, they are beautiful rather with a guy or girl:
- As long as you're mine - Wicked.
- What is this feeling? - Wicked.
- Embraceful you - Crazy for you.

I have always liked "Don't cry for me Argentina" and it is a challenging piece to learn and perform.
