Hi. I get a couple hours of activity in every day and have a pretty fit body. I also drink the 8 oz of water, etc. But there is a history of obesity, heart problems, and diabetes in my family. I eat healthy in general but can scarf down a lot of donuts, mac 'n cheese, etc. Is it possible for all this crap to be clogging up my arteries even if I look fine on the outside? Can eating junk and fatty foods every day lead to obesity and/or other health problems?

Yes it is possible that your arteries can be clogging. This is a very silent occurrence in the body and there are no symptoms until your arteries are seriously clogged. With family history there is also the issue that high cholesterol (which leads to clogged arteries) is also genetic so keeping an eye on your cholesterol level is an important thing to do. Many very healthy looking people actually have seriously high cholesterol or even serious heart disease. Sorry to be so negative but, these are the unfortunate facts. Feel free to e-mail me if you have further questions on this topic that I can help with.

Yes, eating junk food can still lead to obesity and/or other health problems. A great example is this: if you drink every day, but still have a very fit body, you can still damage your liver and get cirrhosis.

To use an analogy: doesn't matter how nice your car looks if your engine is screwed up.

The simple answer is YES. Your body can appear healthy on the outside, but that doesn't mean your blood pressure, cholesterol and various other aspects of your bodies inside aren't suffering. My suggestion is start eating healthier and you'll feel and even look better too. Perhaps speak to a Dr.

Absolutely can. I am very fit but still have a problem with high cholesterol. Its inherited. If I were you I would change some of my eating habits. Take it slowly and you'll see that eating healthy will pay off years down the road.

I think staying health in general is about balance. You can certainly enjoy the unhealthy foods, because if you deny yourself, you will overeat them.

My best advice is to eat the foods you like, but at the same time, eat the foods that are good for you.

If your still not sure, seeing a nutritionist might help.

Oh, btw, congrats on doing what your doing. I do it too, its not easy.

If you have trouble breathing or feel overexhausted after regular activities such as walking to get the mail or walking your dog, you may have clogged arteries. If not, you'll be fine if you keep up your diet and excersice regimines.

Best of luck!

Read this Science Daily article and ask yourself if you really want to keep binging on sugar. If for any reason you have an unusually high glucose level in your bloodstream, you can permanently damage your cellular mitochondria. If you are at herediary risk, I'd give this some thought.
