Destiny is the providence of God guiding the path of humanity. Destiny cannot be altered on the grand scale, but on an individual scale it can. We have free will that guides our paths amidst the road of life. However, the grand destiny of the world and mankind is the ultimate Will of God. That cannot be changed. Everything that has happened and is to happen has been foretold and destined. The choices we make affect our own destinies but not the grand destiny. Like ants in the rain forest, they work and work to build their own colonies and achieve many things, but they cannot stop the rain when it comes to wash them away.

Destiny is the result of actions committed by one in his present and previous births. It is in the form of rewards and punishments. No authoritative answer on details of which action or karma results in which reward or punishment is available anywhere to my knowledge. Actually these are very sublime issues whose answers are found in deep states of meditiation by yogis, saints. But it is almost impossible to put them down in black and white. Some karmas result in some results which are inevitable and cannot be altered. You will find instances of Gurus/Spiritual Masters taking upon themselves such inevitable results of karmas of their very dedicated disciples. In other cases the results can be altered. But only by very very highly evolved spiritual Masters. But the problem is they never put in advertisements or make any claims. They work very silently pulling towards them those souls which are genuinely and desperately searching for spiritual Guidance and upliftment. 99.999999999% people on this earth are happy continuing in the present human form despite their shares of troubles, misfortunes and travails.
The answer to the question why they cant be altered is that there are so many things that cant be altered. You cant alter your mother, father, children, time of birth etc. Everything cant be alterable. That would lead to unmitigated chaos. The Universe runs on a certain discipline. Heavenly bodies run in fixed orbits. Imagine all of them altering their orbits. Imagine the laws of physics, chemistry, etc altering themselves.

Destiny is :"what will happen will happen".

The Buddha said " When there is a result, there was a cause; when there is a cause there will be a result ".

What you get now, is the result of what you did previously. What you do now, will create a result.

So, you are the one that can alter your own destiny.

We cannot entirely change our destiny. We can somewhat alter it by using our common sense, learning from mistakes, maybe winning the lottery and putting the money to good use and getting an education.,

Destiny is the bank balance of Kamra (activities) previous birth. It is spared in this life as initial capital and one has to finish it here itself by enjoying consequences / results or else it will be carried forward. If one wants to get rid of it, Aradhana is the only way. Be attached with the God by body, mind, speech and intellect. Do all obligatory or selected/chosen work / duty as service to the Supreme and think that it was his order to do it. Do it properly putting all efforts honestly and with no reservation, no escipism, no short cuts, thorough complete in all respects. It is said that daily chanting / reciting of "Shri. Vishnu Sahastrana' helps one in this matter. Devotion as stated by Shreemad Bhagavad Geeta is the only way. If somebody assures something more, it will be simply cheating or deviation of mind from real path.

t What is ordained in nature for one is destiny. For instance that all lives born on this earth is destined to die. This can not be altered .Even the Gods who descend on earth as Avatars subject to this rule of destiny.
This is what Krishna says to Arjuna when he hesitates to fight his blood relations in the battle field .He tells him that the enemies are already killed -meaning that they are destined to die even if he does not fight to kill them. He asks him to be his instrument to kill them as it is his sacred duty as a warrior to kill those who are on the path of adharma. - injustice.
It is not the case that god has willed them to die . It is the character of nature that overtakes even the Gods when they come to the earth as avatars .
This is the destiny that befalls every one without exception.Apart from this there are happenings in the day -to-day affairs of people .That is also considered to be the result of destiny. Here it is the effect of one's karma.-action - present and past .Everyone undergoes it and this is modified or its adverse effect lessened at the intervention of some pious persons or deities and this is only psychological

I think that if you believe you are altering your destiny, then it is in your destiny to think this, I also believe it can be changed, but only if you aren't prudent to God's command.

Actually,it has only a very murky religious underpinning and is apparently help over from fatalistic pre-Christian faiths. God has a plan for us,but that's all we catholics know. We don't get into that whole pre-destination thing so much anymore - that's more something fundies still consider a Hot issue. I suppose we did too, once upon a time.

destiny is like what is meant to happen in your life. i believe in destiny. i don't think it can be altered. i believe in it as much as i predestination--that everything that happens happens for a reason. i believe that in the end, most of us will die happy and i believe the lives we live are the loves cosmically intended for us to live.
