That's what they teach in catholic school. But, you know, I always thought that what that really meant was that they got donwn and dirty. lol.

The "apple" idea is much much older than Milton, but not really important to answer your question.
In Northern Europe, the unnamed "Forbidden fruit" became considered a form of apple, because of a misunderstanding of the Latin "malum", where malum as an adjective means evil, but as a noun means apple.
Yes, I do know the Bible doesn't mention an apple. I can read.

I found out over 50 years ago that it may not have been an apple tree. But it is sweet of you to maybe teach the younger, newer Christians something we old timers have known for many years. That it never mentions a apple tree in the Bible.Thank-you.

I generally say apple as sort of an all-purpose fruit in that instance. I was not aware of Paradise Lost, though..

wonderful question...
Yes, an apple was the fruit of choice all these years when in fact the Bible does not say apple...
When Mary and Joseph went to Bethlehem for Jesus' birth, Christmas plays always depict as Mary and Joseph riding a donkey but the Bible doesnt mention how they got there...
starred your ?. good one

I think I've always imagined it was an apple. Don't know exactly why. So it was John Milton, huh? ...in "Paradise Lost"? Thank you for teaching me something new today.

How do you know it wasn't an apple? It could have been any fruit from A - Z. No one have interviewed Adam to ask him this question :-)

i don´t think any one really knows what the forbidden fruit was. I never really believed it was an apple, the Bible never said what it was. I would imagine the tree of knowledge was full of different kinds of fruits, like the tree of life :)

just like the wise men in the new testament. it never ever says there were three. i never gives a number at all in fact. there might have been 2 or 100. we do not know. it was just assumed that since there wer three gifts, the must have been from each wise man, making the number of wisemen 3. another thing is the serpent being a snake. serpent can mean lots of reptiles who crawl on the ground. and besides the hebrew word that was translated into "serpent" actually means "shining one"

I never knew what it was, people chose the apple because of the symbolism of the worm inside the apple, This is my opinion only.
