You can't. Unless you take your complaint to tax court and prove you don't owe them.

I will state what another answerer did and he was right regardless of thumbs down- at the IRS you are guilty until you prove your self innocent!

First off, the trouble did not start with The IRS, it started by you. Did you have enough Federal & State taxes taken out of your paycheck? If not, then it is your fault. Did you file your tax return? If not, then it is your fault. If you did file, did you fill out the return correctly? Did you leave any income off your return? Before The IRS started garnishing your checks, you must have ignored the tax bills. You could have asked for a payment plan when you got the first tax bill.

At this point you probably can't. The IRS doesn't resort to wage garnishments unless the taxpayer has ignored previous efforts to collect the debt such as working out a payment plan, etc. Your chance to work out a payment arrangement is largely past now, though it won't hurt to ask. You could get lucky and hit a compassionate agent -- or at least one who had a good night last night -- just don't bet the ranch on it.

You can't.

The I.R.S. is the only Federal agency where you are guilty until you prove yourself innocent.

If they tell your employer to garnish your check, your employer will do it because they don't want trouble with the I.R.S. either.
