That is way too big a question for yahoo answers. I can recommend some very good books though...
One Nation Under God-by David C. Gibbs
Original Intent by David Barton
If you'd rather watch than read... DVDs
The War On Religious Liberty - D. James Kennedy
One Nation Under God - D. James Kennedy
I highly recommend all of these tools. You won't learn any of these truths in schools today. Our nations Christian Heritage is being buried underneath a rewritten history. God bless!!

In what ways? You would fill a thick book on that one,so I won't presume to answer. If you mean for better or worse, well, obviously atheists have nothing good to say about the Church and decline to acknowledge any of our achievements. However, the Renaissance did occur concurrent to the Church's first real peak period and in fact all the Christianized nations have been astonishingly fecund both culturally and scientifically. Post-Christian European nations have tended not to make much of a contribution and seem strangely depleted and lacking in energy. I think Catholicism super-charged Western civilization. Erwin Panofsky wrote a lot of essays on the theme.

In may ways it drives rifts between people as well as unites them... it messes with our goverment... our laws... but even though I am a non-believer... I fear what the world would be like without religion... as pointless as it is... the world needs religion to survive..
