Sometimes, the flies break the skin and huge gashes form. I bought fly repellent that is animal safe, but it doesn't seem to do the job.

Check at feed stores and ask your vet about this. You may need a stronger repellent. Do you live near horses?

There are fly traps and repellents that are for barns that you may want to put up near your house?

I'm sure there are ways to keep your dogs safe.

I'd say keep them inside and take them out early in the day and later in the afternoon for most of their exercise.

Make sure your dogs are clean. Take them to a groomer if you don't know how to clean their ears. Also talk to the vet. There may be repellents, especially for horses, that the vet could adjust the dose of and you could then use on your dog.

Depending on where you live, I would probably put down some bug/insect killer on the grass. Also you can use Frontline on you dogs to protect them.
**Also- flies are always attracted to dog poop, so I would try to pick it up as soon as possible to prevent the flies from coming around.**
